View Full Version : Mid-ship bilge draining questions

I have a 2005 24SSV and water constantly fills the center bilge area (rain, general leakage, people boarding wet...) and I do not see a drain or bilge pump. It gets pretty nasty in there and I cannot store the boat any higher in the front to drain it. Does anyone else have this issue and what do you do?

Same issues here. WetVac for the win:o It is quite annoying.

I was afraid of that.

Not too familiar with thr layout, but what about drilling a hole? Should be an all composite boat...

There is a hole linking the mid-ship to the engine bilge area, however, the way the boat sits on the trailer and in the water, it mostly flows forward.

Drilling a hole into the bottom is not an option since this part of the hull has the point at the bottom and I do not think there would be a way to make it clean or straight enough.

Block under the front trailer jack so yoi can crank it higher for storage?

I do that but I cannot get it high enough to drain out.

Is there some reason adding a bilge pump at the lowest location won't work? Probably a PITA to install but something that seems to have not been thought through in the beginning and needs a retrofit.

This isn't any help, but ours has a drain there. Not sure when they added them, I would guess 2011?

I would add second clam-style pump if you do not have one.

I assume your boat has 1 bilge pump in the back. I heard another 24' owner, around the same year, telling me the same.

My 22' 2007 has a second pump in the middle. Came with the boat. Same deal, water sits mostly in he middle section.

When I pull it on the trailer, I have a area of the parking lot that has a steep downhill grade. I pull to that area, wipe down the boat, all the water from the back goes to the middle section, then out the side of the boat. Very little stays in there.

Kma4444: I imagine whenever they changed the hull design they added it.

MJH: Since I have the ballast bag in there, I am not sure adding a pump will work. I will tear it all out one day and see if there is an area I can put one and maybe build a box over it so it doesnt get crushed.

I have not really looked in there. I know that is big ballast bag.
I know GOGGER has the 24' with the 496HO around the same year.
