I think my thermostat was installed backwards! The'cone' shape was towards the raw water pump and the thermostat says this side to radiator on the opposite side, the side that was toward the engine. The motor has run a bit on the warm side all season, 180 degrees with a 160 tstat. Anyone have any insight?

What motor? Are you running hard? My boat has always ran 170-180, especially if im pulling hard with extra ballast.

If the lught isnt going off and the oil pressure is normal, i wouldnt worry

Sounds like it is upside down .

170-180 is not bad. Gauges are not exact.

Around 200, better shut it down.

Good thing that's an easy fix. Sometimes the longest part is getting the old gasket scraped off.

Thanks for the replies, I will re-install the other direction in the spring and watch the temp closely.

Watch as the temps rise, then 'level-off' when it opens.
Temps should be steady, unless you are putting a big stress/load on the motor.

While you have it open.... I would replace with a new thermostat. They are pretty cheap and the do go bad.

ngavchris, I replaced it last year and always pull it at the end of the season to inspect and winterize. I will buy a spare for next season just to have aboard for peace of mind.
