After reworking batteries and amps https://forum.supraboats.com/showthread.php?18941-Batteries-amp-Amps-redo the engine wouldn't crank on battery 2 (house). I assumed it was because I had a 4ga cable between battery grounds. I added an additional 4ga cable (because I had one) between the grounds and that fixed the starting on battery 2 issue. But after adding the cable my JL 800/8 amp won't power up. I have 12.6 volts at the power in and remote wires at the amp and my 500/1 sub amp comes up fine, fuses are good. Do amps blow when not in use? The only thing done was to disconnect ground cables from battery and then reconnect. It was working fine before, but not after. The amp is a year and 3 months old, out of warranty.

When taking this reading, to where is the volt meter ground lead connected?

You were all over it Wylietunes, I was testing using direct to battery ground. My dedicated amp ground cable wasn't connected.

Thats why I framed the question like I did. Had a feeling your meter ground reference was not the amp terminal. Glad you found it. its amazing how many calls I field this time of year with batteries going beck in or being replaced, a rogue cable gets MIA and something doesnt power up.
