1992 Supra - Fiberglass muffler rebuild

At the end of last season, I started to hear a rattle noise in the back of the engine compartment. Automatically, I was worried of a transmission problem. It turned out, the muffler had a rattle coming from the inside. I decided to cut it open. The center chamber tube was no longer seated. The passenger side tube lost its seal as well. Below are some pics. I’ll post more as I continue the rebuild.

I cut the top off of the muffler, sanded the inside and added peanut butter to areas with gaps.

Fiber glass resin was added with fiberglass sheets. The area was sanded and cleaned

The center port was seated back into place with peanut butter between mating surfaces, fiberglass resin and sheets were added. Fiber glass was sanded and cleaned.

More resin was added to the inside. The lid has been cleaned and fitted. Entire outside was sanded and cleaned. Peanut butter packed into gaps and several layers of fiberglass resin and sheet added.

I sanded down the fiber glass, added another layer of resin, sanded, cleaned and painted the muffler.
