A friend of mine is thinking of selling his ‘87 Saltare project/parts boat, either whole or in pieces. It’s in really nice shape but has no powertrain (engine/trans) and the floor is in need of work. Hull and interior are very clean, it is a low hour boat.

Any thoughts to value if sold whole? (He or I may list it here if he goes down that path). No need to blow smoke, he’d appreciate any honest feedback. Thanks!

Edit: Asking $1400 OBO.

Probably worth more to part out this boat as individual pieces. As is, no matter the condition, without drivetrain, it’s just a 24 foot piece of fiberglass that only a handful of people (being generous) would care to own and restore. Stringer repair alone would run near $5k for materials. Tack on motor, tranny, interior and all the rest to build out and it doesn’t make really good financial sense vs used composite boat options at the moment.

Does it have a trailer? If so, in good condition, trailer is worth more than boat. More people are looking for a good tandem axle trailer than an empty hull with rotting stringers. Buy a trailer, get a free hull would be my selling point.

Of course, pics would help but in my honest opinion, I would part out if you wanted to maximize your earning potential.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes it has a good tandem trailer- I figured that’s the biggest ticket item if parted. I know it’s likely worth less whole than in pieces but there’s the time/effort in parting it out to consider. I guess I’m asking the supra world what someone might pay for it as it sits... if he could get $1500 for it he may jump. If it’s less than that, he’d still appreciate the feedback.

He may have the powertrain but from what I recall, it had issues and that’s why he pulled it. I can find out if it’s a difference maker.

$1500 would be a good “asking” price.

Where is the boat located?

Boat is in CT. So $1200-1400 might be a reasonable range? We do head to the Midwest and down the east coast a few times per year- could potentially help with delivery.

You need to add to the naval fleet.

I don't think floating museum pieces qualify as a fleet. SMH.

I know you and you would not be able to leave this alone so therefore it would not remain a floating museum piece forever.

Thought hours related to motors . . . .

Sure- the engine run time (or at least key-on) is what the hour meter measures. But I’m sure we’ve all seen high hour boats that have taken a cosmetic beating. This one looks pretty good- the general condition is reflected in its low use/hours.

V-Drive conversion? Somebody on here needs to try it on a Saltaré.
Mr. Tinker, if you’re reading, factory resto-mod would be great for the fans of the classics.

Excellent idea, it needs to go to "Narwhale Customs" for an overhaul.

If someone has any interest in such a project, please shoot me a PM- happy to provide more details.

Do you have pictures of the boat?

I do. Shoot me a PM with your email and I can send them. Having some technical difficulties this morning.

I may have been wrong on this one. Boat looks more sellable than the trailer even without a motor.

I like it, would be a good candidate for restoration no doubt.

Mr. Hunter?

Does this boat still have a custom cover that goes for all the snaps down the side of it? And/ or a bow cover? A lot of snaps there also.

Yes, it comes with custom navy sunbrella covers. They’re in pretty good shape.

Add another to the fleet. You do not own anything blue.

So tempted. If it were closer to GA, I’d pick up most likely.

How much closer does it need to be?

Bump... would like to find the boat a new home this spring. Please inquire if interested: [email protected]

I would also entertain parting it out, though it seems a shame.

Free bump anyways I guess!

One last bump before I part it out and junk the hull. Thanks!
