Hello all, I haven't posted much here but have been active on the Moomba site for a long time. I am looking to upgrade from my 07 LSV and get something newer. Either a new Moomba Kaiyen or a used Supra. Specifically a 2016-2019 Supra SA. I'm trying to get as much info as possible before i pull the trigger. I'm hoping you all can give me a little (or a lot) of insight. Couple of questions...

1. Is the SA basically the same from years 2016-2019? The hull and interior stayed basically the same through those years?

2. I know each year there are some changes and upgrades, can anyone talk about the major ones between these years?

3. Is the flow surf system the same through these years?

4. is there any year i should stay away from?

5. Can anyone comment on how tall the boat sits on the trailer with the tower down and even the racks off? I'm guessing i won't get it in my garage.

Thanks guys, i appreciate it.

996scott Overall, 2016 - 2018 are going to be very very similar as far as performance and features. 2016-2018 has the same screen, interior, storage etc. The 2019 has Supras new screens which is a great addition, power tower, surf locker and is a much better boy than previous years. I can’t comment on the 2016-2018 wave as I haven’t actually surfed them but I have owned a 2015 Supra sc400 which was a great boat but my new 2019 SA400 is amazing. The wave, interior, tower, ballast system, and screens are much better and for me, justify the upgrade. This is all my opinion but if it were me, I would either buy a 2016 or a 2019. The differences between 2018 and 2019 are massive and the price tag is not too much different so I personally would not spend the money on a 2018 and miss out on all the upgrades that 2019 offers. I know it’s not in your options but 2020 is a massive leap for the SA as well.

A couple of big things happened in 2019 - motor and transmission. I think the ? motor was a full-year change for all models, but the transmission was a mid-year change.

Transmissions went from 1.5:1 to a 1.76:1 transmission.

Motor went to 460. Different from the 440 they offered in the previous years.

The 19s interiors have the Chill Tech Vinyl.

Flow is used on the Moomba line, a SA in 2016 had the Supra Swell 2.0. The 2018 models switched to Swell Surf 3.0 & Supra Smart Plate - current system.

The 2018 should have the 6 pump ballast option.

AutoWake was standard on 2017 models.

The screen & dash change was on the 2019s. Big change.

Hull change would be in 2020 and the sub floor ballast.

Thanks for all the info guys, it's very helpful. Sounds like 2019 had some really nice upgrades from the previous years. Keep them coming if you think of others.

Power tower was new in 2018 along with 6 pump ballast.

You will not be disappointed in an SA.

Also, 2018 SA with FXone power tower full down and racks off is 95” on a trailer with 15” tires. Clears my 8 foot door.

EDIT: just measured my garage clearance at 94.5” and with racks off, I have about an inch gap, so I would say It’s 93.5” tower down racks off.

Will be around 125 hours

You won’t find a more babied boat, fully ceramic coated inside and out including trailer.

Barn stored daily.

that's a beautiful boat, what color is the interior? Shoot me a pm if you get to selling it, I might be interested. And thanks a ton for the measurements, I think i only have about 92-93" to work with. I need to go remeasure.

It’s peanut butter two tone, with metallic black and blue piping.

Another big thing for me but may not be for others is the walkthrough on the back. I can send a picture of what it is.

By the way, I found both these boats quickly looking on boat trader. The 2018 is listed at 130,000 with an ugly colorway imo and the 2019 is listed at 119,000. A little tip, we almost bought the 2019 pictured above from Southtown and they listed at 119k but they’ll do 107k [emoji6].

Tried to build a late 2020SA but they were technically sold out, they would have built it, but there was no incentives.

Will be shopping a 2021.

Good call. I really like that feature to keep people OFF the seats.

yea that walkthrough is really nice. The new screens on the 2019 are pretty sweet but to be honest they kind of scare me. All i can think of is how much with those screens cost to replace when they go bad? And it looks as though there are no manual switches at all for anything like the ballast?

The 19 screens are slick, but does get rid of the toggles.

On the 18 you can run everything through the touchscreen, however here are the things I prefer to use toggles for.

Ballast pumps
Seat height
Seat heater
Floor heater
Blower

I am typically not a fan of such redundancy but when I am towing a rider it’s hard flipping through screens to adjust stuff and I like the physical switches at times

You can get some good deals on 18’s and that 18 for $130k better be a 575 PWT boat lol.

Agree, the 575 is a $20k option, but 18 SA’s should be in the mid to high 90’s

They have the backup switches. I use them to make sure ballast are either full or empty.

This is spot on the 2018 SA. Once the 2021s come out later this summer, they might dip a little further down. Your boat should sell fast, it's a nice ride.

It is such an awesome boat, just kicked ass from day 1, dialed in a killer wave and I have zero complaints.

Which begs the question, WTH am I thinking of selling it? I am not smart.

Do not get anything previous to '18. The added weight in the back bags as well as the different surf system are a crazy difference when you are actually behind the boat! With that also being said. I want a 2020 with the new changes so I have an 18' for sale, but I'm not gonna lie. It has some HOURS, but you still got 4 more years of warranty.

Post it on Facebook and Onlyinboards with a price. Be honest with people on what you want out of it. Now is the time to be selling before the 2021s come out. The market/region will tell you what people would be willing to pay for higher hour boat.

With high hours, people will try to beat you down on price. Tough decision on what to settle for. Trade-In will not work for you - it feels more insulting.

Most used boat buyers would be looking at a 2018 with 200-300 hours based on 100-150 per season. So a buyer is going to want to have some type of discount if you are talking about 700-800 hours. Hours are not that scary for some buyers that are not planning on flipping the boat in a few years if you keep good records.

Sometimes I wonder how this can happen, probably life events: someone was listing a 2019 Moomba Makai (CO) with 15 hours. There was a 2019 Supra SL with 14 hours. Granted both of these would be on the top-shelf of the used boat price scale.

Good luck. I will look for it on Facebook.

I wonder the same thing. Bought a 2019 SA400 with 17 hours. Who knows but I’ll take it. New for the price of used.

I think there is considerable buyers remorse with wakeboats.

Someone wants the biggest and best and realize they are over their heads pulling tubes.

It’s a big commitment.

I always feel for the new guy at the launch with a $140k wakeboat trying time back it in. It’s a humbling experience and sometimes to great of one.

True. I know this is off topic but what are y’alls thoughts on storage. I’ve been trailering it for two years and keeping it in a covered storage 3 minutes from my lake at about 100/month. Unfortunately, the new boat doesnt fit into the slot so it’s time to get a new one. I could get another covered storage at 125/month and be on the marina we launch at or I could look into other options such as dry stacks, lifts, etc. thoughts?
