1988 Supra Excessive Play in Rudder

Hello, my son has an '88 Supra and there seems to be excessive play in the rudder - I can push it back and forth from underneath. Is there a nut or another way to tighten th component? Thanks

I have a 89 comp, just replaced the rudder from a break after a trailer incident.

To access the rudder there is a large nut and a fabric compression gasket. It can be tightened but need to assure that the rudder shaft isn't leaking and not broken.
