May or may not be a problem? My boat is older but my engine is a +/- 2000 GT-40 and it runs 165-170 all the time, at least according to my gauge. 160 t-stat, new impeller, no leaks anywhere.

skiman...was that temp reading from the dash gauge? have you tried IR thermometer?

That was the dash meter yes. What is an IR thermometer? This problem occured suddenly, just after I fixed a light problem. THere was a wire disconnected for my docking lights. It had been that way for some time. It always read 160 before. It would read a bit higher if I was pulling a footer or running hard, but then come right back down.

It's always something. I've got a grease hub cap that won't stay on the hub. Pops off rolling down the street.
