View Full Version : Hello! Skiers Choice! Are You Listening?

Are you paying attention? Obviously not with all the bitching and the site being full of spammers.....

Please do something or post a reason as to why this is still going on.

Evidently they aren't John. Haven't you noticed that the General forum has a complete first page full of spam?

Oh, why yes I have noticed that John.

Thanks for paying attention Skier's Choice. That doesn't say much for potential customers :)

OK, this has passed the point of annoying and is bordering on insanity. There is almost no moderation whatsoever. You can't even follow a thread anymore. The only deleted spam posts have been on the spam complaint thread. The top 11 threads in the general forum are spam posts advertising the likes of viagra, lorcet, and anal sex. Seems like it gets cleaned up like once every 2 weeks.

Shall I start an independent supra forum of my own and then just leach the members from this site? Should be easy enough to spam to get them.

It's really crazy how we are getting hit with this garbage right now.
I cleaned the board last night at 9:00pm. Then again this morning at 8:00am.
And now less than two hours later we've been hit at least two more times.

Obviously, not good ... particularly given the graphic nature of what is being posted.

We have added another moderator on our end. Hope that helps. But right now, it
appears that the Chinese and Russian porn industry has made us their distribution partner.

jonyb

I'm no software expert, but I think there are a few upgrades that would keep some of this stuff off.

Also, screening new members and approving their account when they register will help. Most of the time you can tell some of these people apart, especially when they fill in their profile or signature.

If you need more moderators, I'd add the members that are on the board frequently that you know post often or sign in the most. More moderators won't fix this, but will help keep the crap away. When the spammers post, delete the post, then ban them and their IP address.

I'm checking in on the site every hour. Unfortunately porn travels faster than I can delete.
I apologize to anyone who has kids that check our site. Not right.

We have DMGx working diligently on blocking the offending spam. Right now we don't seem to have the issue resolved.

I'm hoping that it gets resolved soon.

I'm moving to Louisville KY. Had a chance to go work with some guys I had worked with for 13 years and just decided it was the right time to do this. Skier's Choice is doing fine. The economy isn't great for anyone, but fortunately the company is solid, stable, and well led.

Unbelievable the amount of spam that is coming through this server. I'm told its from China and from Russia and that there isn't much DMGx can do about it.

I know they are trying.

SC - good luck in your new venture.

One thing to consider, especially since you're starting a new life, is to give
some of the members here that are active the ability to ban/delete posts.

I have this on several other forums - just to share the load, it works well when
there is a team. I am not asking for this for myself (although would be happy
to accept the role) - but just adding as something you might want to consider.

Several people watching can at least get the junk out before it gets really bad
like it was on Wed/Thursday - I know people who don't come here anymore becuase
of it.

Good Luck

Two additional people at Skiers Choice have added moderator powers. Getting into the habit of checking the site frequently is something they will have to do. If you see the board getting ugly ... email [email protected] or [email protected].
Failing that, try [email protected].

DKJBama92Mariah

I have already volunteered to be a moderator and I will not toot my horn anymore. There are several members on here that have shown that they are more than qualified to moderate an internet forum, especially one with as little traffic as this one. I really don't understand Skier's Choice's hesitation on this issue, and it sort of gives me the picture in my head of fingers in ears going LA LA LA, LA LA LA.

jonyb
10-13-2008, 04:56 PM
Maybe not so much fingers in ears as it is to attention to this website.... The oldest (registered longest) members that are on here frequently are the ones that should be granted the mod powers. They're the ones that are on here a lot, which is a lot more than SC and ncarrera is.

tg0824SSVGG
10-13-2008, 05:07 PM
Maybe the "longest" is not the best way to determine ... I know people that have been
banned for SPAM that are NOT spammers - more than one.

If I was a moderator, I'd be mad at you guys for presently dissing Skiers Choice employees and I would be deleting your threads.

THAT's why you won't see a bulletin board member being a moderator.

Give em a break. M Littman just left the company, Natalie is on a well deserved vacation and the one remaining moderator has a life and is doing what he can. Hang in there, it will eventually get worked out

I was banned from the site for a few days and all of a sudden I'm able to post again.

tg0824SSVGG
10-13-2008, 06:39 PM
Ed,

Who is dissing? What I saw was a recognition that SC employees are busy
folks - just like the rest of us - who may not have the same level of
dedication to this site that the users do.

What I saw were volunteers to help out - and a couple people say they had
already volunteered - not much else.

Sorry if my offer of help somehow came across as "dissing"...

Ed G
10-13-2008, 06:45 PM
I was not directing my comments to anyone in particular.

Just making the point the we members cannot be biased or calloused enough to be moderators.

We are just way to passionate about our boats and sense of Skiers Choice family.

I'll bet a $1 If you were a moderator, you would have just thought I was attacking you and therefore deleted my post.

c'mon, admit it. You woulda. :)

tg0824SSVGG
10-13-2008, 07:50 PM
No - actually I would not have. I moderate several other bulletin boards, and at least
on those, unless someone uses profanity - is abusive, or outright spammer, I would
not delete a post.

If someone is banned for gross violations, such as porno, or other things that
violate the agreement of this site - I think deleting posts is bad idea. Contacting
the poster, and asking them to "soften" or otherwise change, perhaps - but moderating
is not to be a censor (at least to me).

Sorry Ed, I wouldn't-a ... (no smiley - I am serious)

Ed G
10-13-2008, 08:14 PM
Glad to meet ya serious and I'm over joyed your a terrific moderator on some other boards.

So am I (backpacking and marathon running).

Now if you told me you were an elected Judge, I might be impressed with your ability to be impartial.

We can keep blowing smoke all day at each other, but in the end we won't end up as moderators here, nor are we needed to be.

Here's a smiley for ya, cause you need it and I love you :)

tg0824SSVGG
10-13-2008, 08:33 PM
ok - now you get one back - sir Smoke Blower ...;)

Todd

PS: I was one of the people wrongly labelled SPAMMER and banned. In the zest to clean up,
they must've gotten a few by accident, and today - I will likely get spammed again - just for the sheer
number of posts - without regard to content ... sigh

IMO that is absolutely the WRONG way to moderate. If my posts were moderated in a such a fashion you would not see me back. A forum is about the free exchange of ideas, both the popular ones and the unpopular ones. Those sort of policies will drive members away, and I applaud SC for allowing this and other somewhat critical threads to continue. To censor them would speak very badly for the company.

Yes, I'm sure Skiers Choice may not be happy with me right now, and I don't care. This thread has accomplished its purpose, the forum is being cleaned now.

If they can keep it that way without member moderation, great. If they can't
then they should consider it.

All the more reason for members or more people to be moderators. You can't run a site that's being attacked so hard with this spam and have 3 people controlling it.

I said members because it's those people that are on here all the time and actually pay attention.

Ed G
10-14-2008, 07:13 AM
DKJBama92Mariah, I highly doubt Skiers Choice is upset with anyone posting on this thread.

They can detatch themselves from what is written and that's why they should remain in complete controll of the board.

Truth be told, the forum would have eventually been cleaned without this thread.

But kudos to you guys for being so proactive.

Actually, it's nice to see activity of any kind on the Supra BB.

I have one question though...how's come you Supra guys get all the latest and greatest news from the Skiers Choice Execs and us Moomba'ers have to come here and discover it?

scmarketing didn't give us his swan song.

We always knew mom loved you best

There is no need to nitpick over this. The forum is being cleaned, so this thread is moot until that changes. Ed hasn't done anything to warrant "getting rid of him." He is just as entitled to his opinion as everyone else, even if someone doesn't like how he says it. This does not need to turn into a childish WW flamefest.

LOL! Thanks for defending my honor Bama.

I am a huge fan of Skiers Choice. I even have the Outback logo (wakeboarding Roo) tattoed on my shoulder.

After being on the forums for more than five years and accumulating almost 2700 posts on the Moomba BB, I do have a reputation for being brutally frank with my opinions and sometimes people do misinterpret the intent of my posts. It happens.

Typically, misunderstandings get smoothed over and good friendships develop.

I'm not at all worried about a little criticism (merely electrons on a screen) and I am quite sure that unless I totally go off my rocker and start expressing hate for Skiers Choice, I will not be "gotten rid of" in the near future.

Here's to Skiers Choice and let's hope for a great year selling those Supra's and Moomba's!

I am active on many wakeboat forums. I like to see what the industry
is doing. This forum has been going down for some time now.
On top of all the spam there is very few new posts.
The SC site is pretty boring I can scan through it in less than a
minuet. I spend most of my time on other brand sites there is
a lot more activity and information. It seems that this site is
loosing its members or maybe the are just silent.

I'm with you, Michael. The biggest downside of my boat, as far as I'm concerned, has nothing to do with the boat -- it's this site. And an owners website is very important to me because I do a lot of projects and it's nice to have input, suggestions and ideas from others. Most of that happens on wakeworld now...I would much prefer it happen here, you would think SC would want that as well. Doesn't seem to be the case.

Somebody on this site has to be willing to start up a seperate forum, Supraboatowners.com or something like that.

Ed G
11-24-2008, 04:29 PM
you can always find other Supra owners on the Moomba BB's. It's a pretty active website.

We have forums that you won't find here (wakesurfing, and Moomba Momma's).

Ed... I lobbied for more "SC love" on the Moomba forum way back when and you pretty much flamed me for it. :) I do scan the Moomba site from time-to-time, but don't post much there.

Ed G
11-25-2008, 08:35 AM
I flamed you? Really?

I usually don't do that unless I believe one is insulting Skiers Choice as a company, it's employees, it's products or my fellow members of the Supra or Moomba BB's.

Sometimes people interprit my dry humour to be sarcasm. If you feel that I flamed you, I certainly do apologise.

Cruise the Moomba boards again. Perhaps you can get people interested in a Supra bowling shirt.

DKJBama92Mariah
11-26-2008, 12:15 AM
You might be surprised Mike. Traffic on the forum this year is quite improved from previous years.

Also don't forget it's wintertime. It always slows down in the off-season. Previous years have seen months go by without a post in wintertime. Things really pick up come March and April when everyone's getting their boat ready for summer.

Regarding creating more traffic on the forum: that rests in the hands of us the members. I think the main purpose of a forum if for its members to create the content, not the host. The forum will sell itself if there's actually something worthwhile to read. Short of buying adspace on WW(gasp!) there isn't much more SC could do. So start a new thread already!

Wait a minute, Ed flaming somebody? No way, can't be! Kinda left your self wide open for that one buddy. You've got two flames in this very thread. :)

If you want to look for a flame, you'll find it anywhere - from Bear Grylls toasting his undies to John the friggen baptist trying to warm his hands on some burning bush rolling around.

Did I just post my third one?

I apologize to anyone who has been wrongly banned. Typically spammers come to the board with some mathematical name, like tgv002sv. So if one of the moderators banned you, or if I did, we are sorry.

In total, the spam thing on both of our boards is so disappointing. I mistakenly opened one of these jokesters emails and the next thing I knew I was at Circuit City spending $250 to get my son's computer cleaned.

We definitely need your help to clean this garbage up.

First level. If you see it, send one of these three people a note:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

One of the three of us will clean up the garbage.

Next step, we are going to put a boat owner/moderator on each of these forum topics.
Love to get some volunteers.

I'm traveling for the next week, but if you will send me a note applying for one of these fine non-paying positions, we would love to welcome you to the porn busting family.
