throttle control

I have an 84 ts6m and was attempting to dissassemble the hand throttle to change a cable and inspect. I removed the stalk and the 4 screws on the black faceplate without anything happening. I dont see anyway of working from the backside. Any ideas?

you have to slide it back, it won't just pull straight out. you don't have to remove the throttle lever itself.

after removing the 4 screws, pull the unit away from the wall a little bit. it won't pull out much. at the same time pull it toward the stern of the boat. it should slide to the stern and further away from the wall as it moves back. work it around in that general direction and you should find the right combination.
