OK, I'm reposting because I'm an idiot. My original post asked about replacing the steering cable in a 1995 22 SSV, but I have a 2005 22 SSV. So, is it the same? Pull a rope through with the old cable so you can pull a new one in? Any insight much appreciated...

Either that or tape the new cable to the end of the old cable with a shitload of electrical tape.

Right - you do NOT want that coming apart in the middle of the pull ... but you also don't want a big wad - it will get stuck

I just ordered a new steering cable 0n my ‘03 from http://www.marine-products.com/
- not a plug but they are a Supra dealer and very knowledgeable & helpful. 20’ steering cable was about $200 bones with shipping.
I’m thinking you won’t be able to feed cable to cable through the boat since the bulky steering rack is at one end of the cable and replaced as a unit. However, I like the feeding the rope idea when removing the old cable. Please let me know how that process goes...

I just did it on my 86 saltare. Should be similar to yours. I used a rope and electrical tape. It took me about two hours total time. It was much easier than I thought it would be. Now I have new cable and new rudder. My wife laughed when I told her it was now Ferrari like until she drove it. We kept oversteering it is so smooth.

So if my steering feels stiffer than I'd like....perhaps I need a new cable????

Either new cable or bent rudder or both. Mine steers like new boat now.
