I have a 2008 22ssv that is on a 3rd OJ dripless and this one is starting to leak. Anyone have a problem with these seals???

Yes they are junk!!! I replaced mine with a normal rope seal and have not had a problem since!!!

I am very suprised owners have not made a big stink about these seals. I hate putting my boat up with a bunch of water stuck under the engine. I end up having to suck it out with a shop vac after every outing. Its starting to get old. I wonder how long my pumps are going to withstand pumping this hot water.

Yeah i just went to my locale supra dealer. (i know the owner) and he told me they are a piece of crap and gave me the rope seal! That was a couple years ago and no problems since then!!!

Can someone explain what a "normal rope seal" is?

rope style shaft seals use shaft packing (small rope pretty much) that's compressed between 2 nuts around the shaft. it keeps water out except for a slow drip that keeps the packing lubricated so the shaft doesn't create heat and score the metal.

I am wondering if its just the OJ design. Anyone have any luck with the PSS shaft seals?

my pss has been a champ. i think it's OEM from 1987. i've changed the rubber boot once, pss was great to work with.

Salty, Did you install the PSS yourself?

No problems here with my PSS seal - the great thing is that you don't have to worry about any packings because there are none - very simple design. I'm pretty sure that it is not OEM because I think I remember seeing a maintenance record in the manual for packing the seal.

i didn't install mine but i've replaced the rubber boot that the ring on the shaft compresses to create a seal. the old one had gotten brittle and tore when i was removing the shaft.
