I already have a feeling I know the answer, but here goes. Am I breaking any cardinal rule by using 6.5" speakers that are not made for a marine application???

I have used non marine speakers on a tower for over six years. Still rockin. The have even been full of water when tower was folded down and it was in the rain. Dumped them out and away I went. They still sound perfect. They are Memphis 6 x 9s. They need to have rubber surrounds and all cones must not be paper and you should be fine.

WHenever I finally replace my speakers I'm sure I'll go with the non-marine type. My boat stays in the garage and we are careful not to get the inside too wet when we are out so I can't see spending the extra money. Even if they do get damaged, you buy another set and replace them cause they're so easy to access!

The Kenwood speakers from the 07 and down boats were all non-marine.
