Have 21 v 2007 and getting low volatge reading. Boat only been used for 2 seasons so didn't think it would be the alternator but not sure???? Changed the batteries and still an issue. Is alternator difficult to change and if not which do you recommend?

take the alternator to an autoparts store. Most auto parts stores will check it for free. Taking it off should be relatively easy. If it has a serpentine belt you can usually use a 13mm or 1/2" to take off the tension off the tensioner pulley to take the belt off.

I think the guys were total idiots.... but at my local auto parts store they told me that their machine didn't allow them to test marine alternators.

Their machine should test it just fine. It is a car engine with different exhaust and mounts. I'd take it to a different auto parts store and tell them it's off a 351 windsor and then they'll probably take care of ya.

yeah you should have turned around and started over, "hi I'm here with the alternator from my 87 ford truck..." same difference as far as testing its output, haha
