If you didn't see my last story, my brother and I bought a Sunsport out of MT this past winter. Its finally getting nice enough to get the boat out on the water so we are figuring out what we need to do to get it ready for a long summer! A couple of quirks showed up this weekend. Twice the main circuit breaker tripped (the 40a. on the back of the motor). No ryhme or reason as to when or why. Dual batteries are both charged, voltage seems to be normal. Unhooked the batteries while running, alternator put out 14.8 - 15 volts with no load. Possibly too high? Any other places to look for our phantom breaker trip?
Also looking for advice on a prop. Currently running a 13X13 three blade. We are in Colorado at about 5400 feet. Decent hole shot, pulls about 4100 rpm. Tried a 13X12.5 four plade off my other boat and got a bit better hole shot, similar rpms and a bit smoother ride. Problem is when the boat is loaded up with fat sacs and people. We want a better hole shot and throttle response. Looking for ideas. Anyone running pitches down around 11? Shaving diameter off the prop? Since this boat will be for wakeboarding only I am not concerned with over-reving the motor. Just want the best pull and throttle response.
I appreciate any input.

Check out the forums props and rpms in general chat. Im running a 13x10.5 acme 913 prop on my boat. I have around 1000lbs in the rear and 400 in the front and it will pull your arms off if you dont watch it. best prop on the market.

For your breaker problem you probubly have an intermittent short to ground. Check the
battery pos wire from the starter to the battery's make sure its not rubbing on
the engine or ground wire. Note do not disconnect the battery's while running it wont
check the alt output but it will put a heavy strain on the diodes in the alternator and may damage it.

Hey naf can you link to your other thread? I missed it. Michael is right on about your breaker, or so it sounds. Like TJ I also just got the ACME#913 13x10.5 and it is probably the ultimate prop for our boat. If your boat did not come with a 3-blade, it was not really meant for one. I went with NettleProps.com for about $350

If your boat did not come with a 3-blade, it was not really meant for one.

where did you hear that mikey?

prop technology has advanced since our boats were built. when i got my boat, it had a junker 4 blade on it all beaten to hell. i'm running a 3 blade acme now, at acme's recommendation....and it's great.

3 blades create less turbulence than 4, more efficient.

nafman, you should call acme or another prop dealer. they'll get you set up after you answer a few basic questions....how much ballast/people, boarding or skiing, etc.

Well ACME told me that if my boat has made for a three blade, it was not meant to have a four blade. I assumed the opposite also applied. If they recommended you a certain three blade, I would follow their advice. :) Sorry for bum steer.

I know all the new wakeboats use four blade and a lot of them have trans other than our 1:1 and also have more clearance under the hull for a larger diameter prop thus the four blade.

As far as the prop question I also changed a 13x13 to the #913 acme 13x10.5 it was perfect. Nettles in Austin,Tx is the "Ultimate Prop" place.

I appreciate all of your input. Looks like the Acme 10.5 is the way to go. What cup are you all running? As for the electrical, we are looking at some good weather here in Colorado this weekend so we will be putting some hours on it! I will keep you all posted.
Mikey, I'm an idiot on how to reply to posts, look for a post from me in the pride and joy section. Thanks again everyone!

:) :)

Not sure what the cup is but I know ACME's website would like that stuff under the ACME#913 info.

Good luck Nuggets!

I will check the pride and joy section.
