I just bought my first ski boat. A 99 santera. It has been great but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas or expericence with the wake this boat creates. Its not as flat for skiing as i had hoped. its still a smooth wake but a little tall. I usually run about 29-30mph. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

welcome to the site, norfork

not too many santera owners around that i'm aware of. you'll have to put some pics up ;)

have you messed with the wake plate at all? you might have a manual one but i'd think it was hydraulic in 99. either way, if you put the plate down it should help flatten the wake a bit.

i moved you over to general chat to get a little more traffic to your thread.

I suggest you add ballast and wakeboard, or do what Salty says. We would like pics please. 87SunsportMikeyD, how are your boat projects going?

We're pretty much ready to go for the summer, but the carb needs a tuneup. Parts are on the way! Carb kit and spacer gask along with new dist cap, plugs, oil filt and fuel filt. Acme is checking the balance of my prop that was vibrating. Just got two more Simer pumps and gotta get those goin along with overflows. Whew! Almost done, I think????

I have a '99 Santera too! I've had it for about 5 years now, and I absolutely LOVE it....

The wake is fantastic. World Class. I had custom fat sacks made that completely fill each rear compartment (600 pounds per side). I also have an integrated bow sack that completely fills the underseat storage in the bow when full (that's probably another 750 or so).

If you mean a wake for SL, you bought the wrong boat. It's usable for slalom, but far from ideal. In fact, every time I take a run behind my buddy's brand new 196 closed bow Nautique, I start to really hate my wake for SL...

If you aren't running a course or anything, it is fine. Seriously start wakeboarding though.... there aren't too many hulls that are much better for wakeboarding wakes....

Here is mine, by the way. It has a tower, ballast and Perfect Pass now, so it is basically a 22 SSV, which came out in 2000 I believe.

Awesome setup! How do you like towing with the VW?

I am actually shocked at how well it tows.

My first tow vehicle was a '95 Grand Cherokee V8. I towed a 19' Mastercraft Tristar with it. It had the power, but the braking was so-so and it "felt" too small with the boat behind it.

Next I had a F-150 for many years. That was fine, as you would expect. Handled great.

Before the Touareg, I had a Suburban and it was extremely disappointing. Weak power.... Probably the wrong rear end ratio.

The Touareg is solid as hell, and tows like there is nothing there. You can barely feel the boat.
