i just bought a 1988 comp with 192 hrs on her havent got it home yet it is a 2 owner boat that was ran last year the intrior is near perfect and the gel shines like new--the floor and stringers are perfect the boat was very well taken care of-- but there is oil in the buildge area??????were could it have come from i checked the oil level and it was good the motor is winterized all the drain plugs are removed but they dident put antifreez back in but that shouldent make a differance--i havent got a chance to mess with it yet but anybody know were i should look for the oil leak???

how much oil?

could be a couple of different things. probably best to clean up what's in the bilge so you can narrow it down. i don't know how well you can see under the engine, might help to lay paper towels down once it's clean to help pin-point it.

could be a seal, could be the filter, could be the pan...

i would have to say 1/2 qt mixed with a little water --i dont think its from the oil filter it has a little belt dust on it so is is old--i looked the block over and i dont see any trails--i bought this boat from a lady whos husband passed she said they used it last year very little and it ran great---remember i have not ran the boat yet but this oil thing scares me a little!!!!!

you said it was winterized, so someone payed this boat some attention before it was stored.
Do you think the oil had been extracted/changed just before you bought it?

maybe it just spilled when last changed - clean it up - run it and see what you have after that.

I agree...could be just some old oil residue from previous changes the mixes with the water and then you notice it. Clean it up good and see if you continue to see it. I dont think I would be too worried as long as the oil level doesnt change in the block.

I gotta agree with these guys. Clean the bilge the best you can, and wipe down your motor too for that matter. Get everything as clean as you can. Make sure you have oil in the motor, or go ahead and change the oil and filter cause you're gonna do that anyway - so do that before you take the time to clean things ;) Then I would hook up the water and run it on the trailer and inspect things. You can find out a lot with a flashlight and mirror.

Oh yeah - welcome to the forum and don't forget to post pictures. We likes pictures!

Welcome to the Supra forum. I own a 89 Sunsport since new the only oil leak I ever had was at the fitting where the drain hose connects to the oil pan. I replaced the hose and never had oil in the bilge since. As the others said clean it and run it to find the oil leak . Don't change the oil untill you find the leak if its the pan fitting you will have to remove the oil to replace it. Don't forget the pics the more the better. Good Luck.

PS Where are you located?

Great find, I found a 1985 Beast with just over 200 hrs last summer, the boat was inside cold storage since 1992. I knew of the boat as I was the last person to service it before it went into storage. I picked this boat up for $1000.00 including the trailer. We pulled out the enemic 454 and installed a Brand new 496 HO. I love these older Supra's. I hope you have alot of fun with your new older boat. Al

My brother in law just bought almost the same boat. It is almost as clean. It has new interior. It has open bow though. He got it for 5500. I bought my Saltare last year for 6300. Hope that helps.

That boat looks brand new! I'm guessing you could sell it for about 8 grand. Its always good to see older boats that have been taken care of!
