Well, No good pics till tomorrow but, after months of waiting, I'm picking up my boat tomorrow. It's an 88 Sunsport. White with Bright red top. Engine is done up a bit and pumping out around 300 ponies and there are only 500 original hours on the boat. Everything is Pristine except the horrible hudson river brown bottom but my friend, acid wash will take care of that in no time. There is also a piece of plywood that the bow seat backing get stapled to that is rotted. other than that, the boat is in pretty tip top shape. the guy is even throwing in all the little extras with it. i.e. life jackets, ski ropes, couple tubes, anchor and all that. I'll definitely post some pics and maybe video links. (has a killer sound to it) I'll be needing a lot of advice on upgrading and getting her wakeboard friendly so hope to hear from a lot of ya. oh yeah, just bought a CWB Faction wakeboard today!

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. I got my first tech question. I want to move the stereo. the stock location is so stupid. i've already kicked it about 3 times. (maybe i'm just clumsy without a board on my feet) also want to put a glove compartment in front of or in liu of the grab bar in front of the spotter seat. might as well kill 2 birds and put the stereo in the glove box. any ideas of preformed boxes? also want to get some deep grime out of the interior. any suggestions on a good cleaner. softsoap and water with a bit of bleach is killing my elbow, not the grime. And one last question. looking at getting a tower (either a monster or an aerial assault) (probably the assault because H2O Sports Warehouse has a killer military discount) Did any of you sunsport owners have to beef up underneath the mounts? it seems like it's pretty flemsy where it will go. Well that's all that's keeping me up all night for the time being. thanks again for all the compliments and I'll be checking all your boats out here shortly. sorry if I steal some Ideas. haha

Here is my new tow rig also. I wanted something that breaks even more than a boat so I got myself a Land Rover. Looks kinda like the Pope-mobile. :D

Who the hell is Shandong Puyang and why are you writing about the Chinese in my thread. I don't think they're allowed to wakeboard. They use their supras for harvesting rice and cranberries.

I'm pretty sure west Marine will have a preformed glove box and if search kingwoodlee's restoration there's a glove box install on it. I'm not a sunsport owner, but I think putting backer undder the tower supports is a greatidea on any boat...not easy in some spots but definitely stonger.......Those assault towers are nice looking......

Would there still be room for soybeans in the boat??? My Conbrio would prolly only hold a little rice and a few cranberries!!!!

Nice boat, nicer price. I put 10 inch by 3 inch aluminum plates under my tower. It came with a 3 inch plate but I figure go big or go home. My tower is an older air boom. This is the second boat I have had it on. Great tower, zero flex even with my 6'5" 290 lb brother wakin.

not sure how to harvest soybeans in a boat. maybe some wheels on the bottom?? If the chinese can ride an entire family o 5 on a moped, I'm sure they can figure it out. :D

Finally got the ol girl back to my place so here's the first set of pics. It was never washed after last season so I gotta clean her up pretty good. I'll be on her all morning working so there'll be a lot more pics. It took forever and a set of jumper cables but I got the engine running and it sounds freekin sweet. nothing like the smell of 93 octane and old stabil filled gas! anyways.... more to come

Okay where to start she is like a diamond in the rough! So much potential to be a wake beast!!! Gotta love that Hudson River scum. Boy and I thought Mississippi River scum is bad. Always scrub it down quick before you pull her out of the water because if the scum is wet and has been soaking in the river for the day it will scrub right off. But if it dries out you'll need much stronger cleaner. Those little mussels are crazy looking we do not have them here sorry to see it.

What's up with the name?? We Ski Too 2? No offense but makes me think "We Ski in a Tutu" hehehe.

Your 88 is ALMOST the same as my 87. Super jealous of your fiberglass swim platform though!!! That makes me wonder if I could ever find one..... Oh and your rear grab rail around the rear ski locker is stainless steel, mine is teak. Same for the grab rail by the spotters seat storage compartment (neato). Looking at your interior they have also removed all the teak strips but kept a lot of the same upholstery (what a freaky word) and stitching patterns.

Nice job with the cleaning and your ladies look lovely! :D Please don't stop taking pics! What are your plans for her? Update or keep stock? The boat I mean hehe.

That thing is gonna be soooo sweeeeeet, my best advice would have patience.....it'll all come together with time....
Man I want a SunSport!!!!

When I get a chance there'll be a big rounded corner wooden platform on my Conbrio, I don't mind the fiberglass, but wood to me looks sooo much better....

bryan632
07-05-2009, 11:15 AM
Absolutely! I like teak but I'll also go to the fiberglass side if the price and size are right. there's nothin better than having a giant swim platform to sit on to strap in.

87SunSportMikeyD
07-06-2009, 11:36 AM
Well you don't want TOO big of a platform because if it touches the water while you're boarding it can mess with the wake. Same for surfing. My platform is pretty narrow too. Maybe 1.5'. Ipod hookup has been great for me. Straight into an equalizer and on to the amp.

For the seats do you mean the cushins or the back support? For the shaft seal that should be easy. A pic would help a lot. There are two kinds of shaft seals. One has some waxed string packed inside of two nuts. The nuts may have come loose, just tighten up some. Other kind has hose clamps over a graphite (I think) seal and you just tighten the hose clamps. There is another thread about this topic here right now, check it out.

Bryan the prop shaft packing is supposed to drip about 4 drops a minute. Is yours is leaking
more?

bryan632
07-07-2009, 01:02 PM
It's not dripping it's got a steady stream. I'm gonna try to tighten the nut. If that doesn't work, I'll change the flax. Thanks for the advice guys.

bryan632
07-07-2009, 01:07 PM
Mikey, the plywood I'm talking about is what the backs of the seats staple to. When you pull out the bow cushions, the plywood is right there around the outside. it may not be visible if it isn't rotted out though. it should be an easy fix though.

87SunSportMikeyD
07-08-2009, 09:32 AM
Ya I know what you mean now. That is pretty common in some boats. Wood chips all over the open bow interior. Mine has some loose/pulled out staples and trim, but no rot knock on teak.

Not sure exactly how tough that process would be, maybe want to start a thread about it and see if anyone else has tackled that project.

So, I changed the flax seal in the stuffing box today. My freekin fingers are crossed! It went in so easy. I started out by pulling 6 rings of old flax out of there! there's only supposed to be 3. i then slid in 4 new ones. Definitely recommend getting a scalpal to cut the stuff. it goes thru like butter. didn't need any tools to slide it in and it all went way too smooth. hopefully it holds water like it's supposed to. :) I hate when things go that easy. especially when i'm expecting a tough job. by the way, anyone trying to do this. pull the base of the engine box off and sit the whole unit aside. it makes life so much easer without the boards there and the dog house leaning against your back seat. anyways, just thought I'd throw in an update. everyone say a little prayer that I keep the water below my boat. haha.

There she is with the new tower. still have to install the bullet speakers. I'll have pics of it on the lake this weekend. It's a shame to have pictures of it sitting in my yard.

The tower is actually a kit. I got it as a package from www.h2osportswarehouse.com. It's the Aerial Airborne package. It comes with directions that tell you exactly what to do. It is a pita to put on but well worth it in the end. Do you have some pictures of your boat? if so, get a thread going so we can all see your progress!
