Just thought I'd share some pics of the new look for my 86 Sunsport. I got the new wave decals from non other than Jim Jackson at Viper Customs ($30 per set) and then I decided to update the original "supra" decal with the current lettering. A local sign shop made the decals for me ($16 per set). I also have a new decal for the transom which I will share a picture of after I get it applied.
Prior to the new decals, I used 3M Perfect-it II rubbing compound followed by a good coat of carnauba wax. It's not a showroom finish, but definitely an improvement!

Wow!!! Those really look great! Your old wave was GONE hehe. So how did you do it? Did you cut along the edges of the old wave and then peel it off? And how did you get the old text off, was it a sticker on top of the colored stripe that you could just peel off?? Awesome!!!

Looks great. I like using the new font, kinda old school with the wave and new school with the font.

Yeah - old wave was completely gone! When I tried to peel it off, it just crumbled, so I heated a little with the heat gun to soften it up, then peeled very carefully using a fresh blade. The old supra decals are just vinyl on top of the colored vinyl tape, so they peeled off very easily, without heat. Then I use the rubbing compound on everything, including the stripes, applied wax, and I was ready for the new decals.

That's what I was hoping for, a little old, and a little new.

That looks great Clint...I am hoping to put mine on this weekend. No doubt you got a better deal than I did through viper on the decals. I started cleaning the teak on mine and hope to get the new decals on. I will send you pics of mine as well.

Started wetsanding the upper half of the boat last night. The previous owner did a fantastic job caring for the teak, but let the teak oil run onto the gelcoat and dry - creating a stained mess. Now I have to wetsand the oil off with 1200, polish with 3M Perfect-It and apply carnauba wax. Will try to be finished tonight so the boat is ready for another weekend!

I love the color of blue on the Wave and SUPRA with you color scheme . . . . Very Nice ;)

Thanks guys for all the compliments - it's encouraging to hear! The blue wave is the original color blue to match the blue on the water line and the "Supra" I thought would look cool matching the wave.
I finished sanding and waxing the deck today, then I re-oiled some of the teak. It's not a professional job, but I'll have to say that I'm pretty darn happy with it! Hope to get her out later this afternoon/early evening for a short run after the wind dies off.

That's a good job looks beautiful. Once you get the teak nice its easy to maintain it.
Just oil it twice a year.

Beutiful! I have to agree with Mapleleaf on that windshield- very classy indeed! Acually, everything looks great, going to have to build a jumpseat like yours- the one between the driver and observer. I like the Sunsports alot!

I've been told that if you cut the tung oil with turpintine 50/50 first coat, 75/25 second and so on, it'll help the oil penetrate deeper into the wood....prolonging finish.....

Maple, my mom told me to oil teak, once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year. That sounds like a lot of work and teak oil to me, but she's the one that got me into boating(and you too, dad) so maybe I'll try it!
