'05 21V Screeching and grinding in neutral

I have an '05 21V and when I am shifting from forward or backward into neutral the boat is screaching and grinding as if the prop is hitting something. Sometimes if I shift very slowly it this will not happen. Any suggestions?

I found my problem. The spring in my ignition switch went out. When I was turning the key the ignition switch was remaining in the start position which kept the started initiated. Fortunately I recognized what was occuring before I burned out the started. By turning the key 1/4 turn back to the left I solved the problem.
