the boat has 398 hours on a well maintained 351, Im thinking about purchasing this boat but im looking to see what you guys think of it as a budget wakeboard boat, I just sold my party /speedboat because I got a chance to get pulled behind a supra and realized that i/o is not the way to go even if it has 300 hp,I could never just get it to stay at one speed and the front kept picking up then you give it gas to go down, Constant fight, So anyway its a 86 supra sunsport and its in great shape inside and out, Fires right up, forward and reverse is smooth, and the only issue is there is a small soft spot where the passenger seat where your feet rest is, interior is original and I knew the original owners since new and its no suprise the interior is clean as it is! I actaully bought a 93 jetski off then 2 yrs ago and it looks like new to this day,

any input would be great, The trailer was not original and actaully is in pretty bad shape around the wheel wells but that can be fixed

oh and pictures don't do this boat justice, We just took it out of winter storage because the owner bought a pontoon boat and never got this one out because they don't ski anymore! Ill have new pics after sunday we are putting it in the water and seeing how my wife feels about cruising it, I BELIVE there is a wake plate in the rear of the boat, What do i want it to be set at if im being pulled wakeboarding? I know this boat wasn't built for wakeboarding in the 80's but if it was what would the plate be set at?

Well you came to the right place for help. Check out my post on my purchase here https://forum.supraboats.com/showthread.php?t=4400&referrerid=7167 and you should start to learn about the "soft spot" you noticed and need to possibly consider while pricing this boat. Search on "stringer" in the forum here and you'll learn all you want about the work that could be ahead of you if this boat has water-logged foam below the deck. Just do some research here and investigate.
On the other side you may have a sweet find here. Don't worry about wakeboarding... many members here wakeboard and surf behind the 80's-90's boats with great success... just read over wakemikey's post in "pride and joy" section. He's a huge fan of his wake beast of a boat!

I love my 87 SunSport. The floor is the only thing to worry about. If the floor is bad you could have to rip it up and replace the stringers too, this could add $2.5k to the cost. If you are able to find soft spots see if he will come down in price. Walk around barefoot and tap the floor with a screwdriver. Check my pride and joy thread, I have been very happy with my SunSport!

That boat looks to be in great shape for its age. Check the motor mounts where the bolts go into th stringers. That is the quickest way to tell what you are dealing with under the floor if the bolts are loose or turn easily this is a sure sign that the stringers are going to need work. If the mounts look good then I would say you have found yourself a very nice boat. Check NADA price guides to get a ball park on what it is worth and discount off of that price based on the condtion of the floor and stringers.

well The soft sport is the size of a 8 inch circle, Its not that bad, Motor mounts are great! would this boat be worth say 5500?

5500 would be fair if the interior does not need any apholstry work. I paid $7500 for my 87 in above average condition.

8" soft spot is fairly large, the problem happens when water leaks through the soft spot. The bilge valley goes down the center of the boat from bow to stearn, but it does not extend all the way from one side to the other. So if water gets through the floor, but does not land in the bilge valley, it gets trapped. This causes the wood supports to rot.

Replacing a small section of floorboard is easy, but replacing stringer is a lot of work.
