Need to replace a starter on a 1986 sunsport. I am not the greatest mechanic. Does anyone think this is an easy project and recommendations on where to buy the starter.

I believe it is a left hand rotation. Also, I am going to replace the solenoid.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Are you sure it needs a starter? Look around your area you may find a local re builder to go through your starter [Do not use a automotive starter] . Try Napa and Carquest. Do not use Autozone or Advanced for a starter.

Below is a copy of a post i put up a few weeks ago...Check out this link for a great starter. It is like night and day starting mine now. Before I always dreaded turning the key when the engine was hot. I installed this starter and all my starting troubles went away. Or...i can sell you my old one that I took off :-)

I installed the new starter from db electrical that Knoble turned me on to. ALL HARD AND HOT STARTING ISSUES HAVE BEEN SOLVED!!!!!!!!!. Thanks to Knoble for tell me about this starter. The boat now starts immediately everytime you turn the key even after skiing and tubuing all day. This starter really does turn the motor a lot faster and did not get hot at all. I highly recommend that if you are having this problem that you look into getting this starter for your boat. And for the price you can't go wrong....$55.00 with a year guarantee and customer service at db has been great.

Finally I feel like I am turning the corner on getting it running right. Had a great day yesterday and my dad didn't have to tow me back.

Here is the link to the starter if you want to check it out

Hey buddy you're not fooling me with that link! Try again :) :)

Mine starts all the time but it needs to crank over a couple times and I usually have to pull the neutral pin and floor the throttle while I crank it, then back off once it starts.

Sounds like a good idea for me too!

Sorry guys try this link. Not sure what I did there.

Mikey....I had to do the same thing with mine with the old starter. Now I get in, give it a two pumps, push the throttle open a little bit and hit it. Cranks right up.

here is the link...get this starter!!
