Vinyl Repair job.

I had a stupid moment the other day and somehow allowed one of the support arms for the tower to slam down onto my back seat, while breaking the tower down to get it in my storage building. I put a nice large gash in the vinyl and I felt like vomiting. I was so angry.
I called Dr Vinyl and finally met up with them today and this is the results. I'm very pleased with the outcome. Now the nauseated feeling in the pit of my stomach has eased up a bit.

I thought you guys might be interested just in case you have a "stupid moment" like it did ( I have them alot)

They made 2 repairs and charged 75 bucks. They first applied a backing, next was a vinyl putty, then a fiberglass overlay which was then heated and cooled to bind the layers together. Next, anther putty layer was applied and smoothed. Lastly, it was airbrushed with a matching color. The paint cures instantly so no waiting on that part. Kinda cool to watch the process.

Rusty,

I'm sure we are not the only ones. From what I'm gathering...alot of people have had the same thing happen.

Fleetpaint,

I can see the repair because I know exactly where it was at. Anyone else...not a chance. My wife was there when the tear happened and was as sick about it as I was. However, when I came back from getting the repair done, she couldn't find it. I had to point it out to her.

I tried the auto store kit that is somewhat similiar but with terible results. Looked great when I was done, but ever after letting it cure for 48 hours, it did not with stand any kind of pressure and split back open. I am sure for smaller holes the auto store kit would be fine, but for larger load bearing areas, no so much. I am quite a bit North of TN area, but who is the Dr. Vinyl you speak of? Local folks want $500 plus to recover my 2005 22 SSV GG rear bench.

Jason,

Thanks for following up on this thread. I was hoping that someone might benefit from seeing the repair job.

Oh, I'm pretty sure our paths crossed at Knox Water Sports this past Saturday. You and Nick were talking when my wife and I walked in to check out a XLV and to pick up some board racks for a friend. Anyways, just letting you know.

No worries. I didn't know it was you either but I got to talking to Nick and just mentioned how it came up on the forums how he could kill it on the wakeboard. I mentioned your username and he kinda laughed and said your name and then told me that was you that had just left.

Yes, Centerhill and Dale Hollow are great. We spend most of our time on Dale Hollow. It's about 15 minutes from where I work. So, I sometimes just bring the boat to work and leave from there...very nice.

We are in Knoxville quite a bit. I went to UTK and we have friends in the area and it's familiar territory for us. We def should get together sometime on the water or grab a bite to eat when I'm back that way.
