I am looking at purchasing some wakeboard racks for our boat. My issue is that we trailer our boat about 30 minutes to the lake we ski at. What does everyone do with your wakeboards/ wakeboard racks when towing your boat?

They are Factory racks

Don't you still get the same amount of bugs swiveled in, just on the opposite side? Covers would be an effective method.

Has anyone seen aftermarket racks that swivel in?

Thanks

I swivel them so they are pointing back. Covers would be good then ya just thro them in the washer when needed. i need a speaker and light cover as well...i already have the black sunbrella material just have to cut and get my best friend to sew it up :)

Does anyone know if they actually make covers for the racks for this purpose?

I also swivel mine in, and remove the boards, keep them in the boat till we get out on the water, but the bugs are still an issue.

I saw a pic recently of some factory Roswell racks covered on someones boat, but I don't recall where or where you can get them. I keep my boards in the racks and swivel them into the boat. If they were to ever fall they'd atleast fall in the boat. Call me lazy but I only tow 5 minutes to the launch, with a stop for gas in between.

On long trips you can wrap plastic food wrap on the tower and racks to prevent having to clean bugs .

thats a great Idea Michael, easy on easy off. its all those pesky critters on my speaker light bar and tower that are a pita

I have been using speaker sox covers for my board racks and speaker covers with good results. They also have the Supra logo available.

Boards off and in the boat, racks swiveled in since they're the widest point of the boat while it's being towed.

I also take the 3-some down and store in boat, and also the fabric off of the Z5 cargo rack.

MonsterTower.com makes aftermarket swivel racks. http://www.speakersox.com/home.htm is the website for board rack covers.

Most people advise against driving with loaded or unloaded board racks. If the trip is over a couple miles or over 35mph I would NEVER risk it! You're holding thousands of dollars out the window. Put the boards in the boat and the racks too IMO.

So Mikey do you just loosen the bolts for the clamps and swivel them in or do you have swivel racks? It seems that a lot of the aftermarket swivel racks I have looked at only go 90 degrees, and are baisicaly just for easier board access.

I do like the Monster pivoting board rack but $400 + is a chunk of change for a board rack. However there standard board rack looks good since you can just remove it and set it in the boat.

Thanks for the info

I think most of the boardracks that are decent are easily above $400. The Roswells' I have swivel 180*.

Kip I just have the standard racks. They have a quick disconnect and are very easy to use but also very secure imo. I do not have the swivel racks as they are way spendy. :)

my boards and speakers stay in the truck or boat until the boat is at the ramp and then i'll put them on the tower. empty racks stay on the tower all the time.

boat trailers don't really have any suspension, leaf springs are stiff at best. potholes, curbs, bad pavement or gravel roads are very hard on loaded towers and the gel coat they're bolted through.

Thanks for all the information. I like the removable racks monster sells and will probably check one of those out.

There are often used ones on WakeWorld too.

Check craigslist as well. I got a removable monster surfboard rack from CL. I do have a complaint about it though. It seems no matter how tight I tighten it to the tower, if we are in rough water and the rack is loaded, it will slowly swivel inward. Maybe I just need to remount it. Who knows...

Tay did you try the tiny allen wrench screws around the clamp? That should keep it from rotating on you. Or else the whole plastic collar is turning still?? Hmm Call them they will back you.

I ended up finding an Aerial demo rack from onlyinboards.com. I picked it up for $75 shipped and it looks great. I think Ian said he had a couple more if anyone is looking for a good deal.

It didn't come with the plastic collar so I am using a rubber one that came with my tower speakers. That may be the problem. I might give them a shout and see if I can get what was designed for it.
