Stringers around the motor mounts are shot on the port side. What's a fair price to offer? I got a quote locally to get the stringers done for around $3,500.

Other than the stringers being hosed seems to be a nice boat.

If it were in good-great condition with good stringers it should be about $6-7500. So subtract $3500 = $2500 - $4000 and whoever is selling it will be sad. :(

Couldnt have said it any better myself....the only way he can sell it for that money is to hope he finds a buyer that doesnt know what he/she is getting into. As a good seller he should tell them that the stringers are bad. Could be dangerous for somebody that doesnt know that it is a problem.

Not sure how my latest counter offer is going to be received. On the bright side Citi sent me something last night offering to refi my house out from the 12 years I owe to 20 with a better interest rate. Free up $287/mo.

Very tempting to just suck it up and buy a 2003-2005 SSV if I can find one close by. What the hell ya only live once.:D

Then there's part of me that thinks that 87 Sunsport sure would look nice next to the 87 IROC.

Beerbarge, did you go look at this boat? Its right up the road from me. Would take much to go look.
Let me know, a few extra grand for floor and stringers is more cost effective than still buying a new one. If there is much demand for the old sunsports, I should buy a few and fix the floor and stringers then re-sell. Could make some extra coin on it although I'd rather just see these boats restored to their former glory because people love them.

I haven't been to see it. The guy that's storing it for the seller is a boat mechanic. I agree on all counts. I could save a few bucks over a new one and I like older(87 being older ouch) stuff and think they should be restored.

If you want to swing by there and scope it out that would be cool. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive for me and when I sucked up the drive last week it was for naught.

Have you ever been on an 87? It is a great boat. Surf wave is great, wakeboarding wake is just good in my experience. The boat handles great and can handle the chop great. The DD is annoying. If you love boating you will probably want to upgrade in a few years.

I think the length is the same, but the deep-v isn't as deep on the Rider. Just from what I have heard.
