So I wanted to start a thread about cheap mods that you can do to your boat. There may not be too many, but I am always looking for something new to, but not spend a ton of money. If anybody has any good ones, post em up. I dont think there is a need for any instructions in this thread, just ideas!

I have to admit that I got the idea from jonyb but I put LED's in all of the cup holders, in the bow, and across the bottom of the rear bench seat for probably about $50 and a few hours.

I forgot to put my Amp Rack. That was less than $100 as well. Probably cost about 30-50.

Tay lets see some pictures of your LEDs! Nice job!

I would recommend the Monster Tower tower-top navigation light. It is inexpensive $35 with 5 year warranty. It is just incandescant though, you need to spend about $100 for an LED version I believe. Low power usage. Wiring can be a pain, depending on if you are already wired for lights or if you are running speakers its nice to do at the same time and ok for same tower leg.

LED amp rack. May cost a little more than $100 though.

The LEDs are an awesome cheap upgrade, where ever you put them. I dont have a pic of the whole boat in the dark but here is a taste of what the LEDs look like. I will try to get a better pic when I get the boat put back together here in the coming weeks!

A few under $100 mods, flag holder (in down position), speaker sox "SUPRA" tower speaker covers/wakeboard rack covers, and gator grip on the top deck of the boat. The gator grip is awesome, especially with the Z-5 when you need to tie something down or quickly grab something...prevents a lot of injuries! So far it has been bulletproof.

I also did the LED cupholder after seeing John's.

Details and photos (plus the mounting of my WS-420) are in this thread from
last year:

jonyb, how'd you manage to do the under-platform LED's? Did you do it yourself? Was it difficult? Did you create them their own seperate switch? It scares me drilling gaping holes below the waterline, haha. And please tell me you did it for less than $100 :D

If trying to keep the cost down - you can go with the Monster tower light & swap the incandesent bulb with an LED. Google & you can find LED replacements for just about any standard automotive style bulb for just a few bucks.

Haha hes gotcha there that is a baller upgrade! Nice though. Love the cupholder LEDs, which ones did you go with, the single LED or the oznium superbright 4chip LED?

Another neat suggesstion from G on wakeworld is the millioncolor LEDs with a color controller so you can pick any color you want as well as have patterns, pulsing, etc. Neato.

Get the prewired superflux 4 chip. they are 2.99 a piece and pretty dang bright IMO. Waterproof as well.

How about a wired remote at the driver's helm or transom? That's something that could be done under $100.

Windshield tint?

Throttle knob?

I definitely want to do some things with LED's. That's probably going to have to wait until next year.

I'll get my tower speakers powered with an amp and then see where I'm at with my budget after finishing the rebuild. Setting up the ballast hidden and semi-auto will be next. I'd like to get some board racks too.

FMAN, two questions. Where did you get the flag holder. Second, how satisfied are you with the speakersox? I just put an order together and its $150 for my speakers, mirror, and racks. Just wanted to see how much you liked them before I make my decision on if I want to buy them.

I am not fman, but I have had speakersox (with custom embroidery) for nearly 4 years and they hold up very well. I have driven THOUSANDS of miles with them on the speakers
at highway speed - they are out in the SUN 365 days a year and are still solid.

Only complaint, the black is now dark grey. Other than that, for the money they
worked great.

(this is on my old boat - do they make covers to fit our roswell lightbar?)

Ok, thats a pretty good review. I dont think mine would get as much "abuse" as what you are describing. It is only a 5 min drive to the river and it is in the garage most of the time. I think I will eventually get them. If any body else has experiance with them, lets hear it! This a good cheap mod IMO

As Todd mentioned, the Speaker Sox products are a very good product. I put them on last year and have had no problems. Have had no color fading problems, but my boat is stored indoors, only outside when using it on the water.

The flagholder I got from:

http://newtproducts.com/

Only recommendation I would make it get the 24" flag, not the 36", if you forget to pull the flag (which you will gauranteed) and drive the boat in the holder it will bend the flag pole, the 24" wont do this as bad. Nice thing about there flags is they all float as well. Another nice product.

For wiring I did something that didn't work. I used the platform brackets for the power and ground. Like I said, it didn't work so I won't elaborate. The LED's are from superbrightleds and are 30 modules in 1 string. Each module has 2 led's and are spaced 3" apart. The string was about $80. I wired them into the transom light.

Don't know if that first one was directed at me, but I used the Oznium lights.

jonyb, got a link for where you got those? That sounds like a great idea, esp. wiring it into the transom light. Did you not freak out drilling gigantic holes below the waterline, or did you have someone else install them?

Hey Travis ... did you look into that "Tower Sock" at newtproducts?

It would cover ALL the stuff up there, not just the speakers. I may look into that
for when the boat is just sitting there ... like NOW.

LMB-x4 http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Flight_bars-sign.html

I didn't drill holes in the boat. I used the platform brackets, then ran wires to the bolts inside the boat to power the brackets.

That looks cool, especially if you store your boat outdoors. I does cover up the light on the tower, but not a big deal. I wonder how much they want for those?

Sorry Jony I forgot that u had Ozniums under the platform, I thought they were transom lights.

I really want to do transom lights. I really really do -- however, the shadowcasters I would do would cost me $1200+ for what I want -- so that's not happening any
time soon.

:o(

I highly recommend the wakeworld bbs article on underwater lights to anyone
considering these. There is a very thorough test/comparison done to just about
all the transom lights out there.

Some are WAYYY less $$ than what I just posted -- I just determined that I like
the ShadowCaster the best. But then, this topic would need at least one more 0
in the title before this would really belong there.

^ And now you can;t even get the cheap ones for under $100. I found em on eBay for $104 EACH! And Bullet Lines sells em for like $169 EACH or something crazy...the group buy the did got em for like $70 I thought.

Wish I had gotten in on that. :(

Superbright's under the platform, ozniums in the cupholders

these high intensity spots ozniums are only about 17 each ...so you could put 5 on your transom for under 100

I just ordered one of these for my steering wheel, Jim at speakersox.com just came out with these this week, thought it was a great idea. He gave me a good price on it, nothing worse than a sun faded steering wheel.
