Check this link.http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/174974.html?1087938230

There is a link on that page and about 3/4 of the way down it has some pics and a quick write up on a diy puller.

I purchased this when I bought my spare prop.

It's a case with the tools, pins and room for the prop in a nice package.

That's a pretty cool kit tg. When I replaced my prop, I was able to use a good gear puller that I had in my toolbox. Worked fine.

Csuggs, that's a good idea on the gear puller those are cheap. Which one worked for you 3 or 4 arm puller?

I have built and designed several prop removale tools. Shaft sizes from 1" to 2". An easy way to remove any taper fit item is with vibration. What I use are called "prop knockers". Basically you remove the prop nut, thread on the knocker until it bottoms out on the shaft, need to have 1/4" gap between knocker and prop. Once knocker is installed, use a ball peen hamer or short barrel air hammer, and wrap on the end of the knocker. The air hammer works great. The hit does not need to be very hard either, just enough to create vibration. I have removed up to 24" props with this method. Al

My gear puller can use either 2 or 3 arms, but I don't remember which combination I used! It worked fine and didn't take much pressure to remove.

I tried using a homemade prop puller as well as a gear puller and neither worked worth crap. I just gave up and went out and bought one. But if you start asking around locally you can find one to borrow. Try wakeworld. You could also tow your boat to a dealer on your way to the launch and they can pop it for you. It is effortless and takes 15seconds with the right puller. Plus you will be taking it on and off more than once for sure. It does suck how spendy they are.

I purchased a spare prop and a puller two years ago after my third prop repair in 6 months. It was the best or worst investment I have ever made. Since my last prop repair - I have never used the prop or the puller. It is just collecting dust. I guess it is piece of mind that if I damage my prop, I can have my spare prop in action relatively quickly.

I just removed mine the other day, used a 3-jaw puller from Harbor freight, only took a minute- I have a 3-blade prop. Now the polishing is taking a little longer, but it's looking good so far!

I just picked up a 3 arm gear puller from my local store for $12.00. I will let you know how I make out with it on mine. I like $12 better than $80 for a prop puller.

I tried that 3-arm puller and mine was stuck on really hard. The threads on the 3-arm puller are too wide. Once tension gets high, I cannot physically turn it any more. On the real prop puller they are very fine. Once it is popped off the tension needed was much lower.

Even a better quality gear puller will have a fine-thread screw.
