Another front view of the 496 HO. The Teak floor is complete now. I just have to install the hatch and helm seat. The teak oil will saturate fine tonight, I left the heat on in the shop. Al

That floor is beautiful - I just hope it's not too slick!

The boat never sets outside overnight. When we are done using it, we put back on trailer and put back in shop. The Teak floor was fairly easy to install, much easier than the Teak and Holly flooring panels I have installed in larger boats. Price for the teak was actually cheaper than initial thought would be. I bought 90 sq ft for $300 1/2" X 2 1/2" tongue and grove. Hardest part was working with the variety of colors. The 496 really hauls. Much stronger than the old 454. The motor has a variety of componets, Mercruiser, Volvo, Cruisader, and of course PCM. Al

Thanks but Teak is naturally non skid, I also like the easy clean up. I installed a polystyrene subfloor under the teak, this was to keep water from saturating the original floor system. Al

Looks great. I cant imagine the rip that 496 would have and the floor looks amazing.
So do you run this Beast on Wawasee?

The polystyrene is screwed and sealed with 3M 5200 down to the original fiberglass covered floor, I then used shrink wrap tap to cover every seam. The wood is pin nailed down with 1.25 SST pin nails,(air nail gun style). I also ran a bead of 5200 caulk under every board. If you have every used 5200, once it sets up it is perminant. Once all the boards where in place, I sanded smooth and oiled. It was nice using the polystyrene for a ultra smooth subfloor, every easy to mark out on to keep thngs square. I have less than $500 in the floor, including wood, subfloor, adhesive and oil. Al

Kip, yes we are on Wawasee, and Lake Syracuse alot in the summer. My shop is about 1/4 mile from Barts. We like to go to dinner by boat to the Channel Marker. Are you close to Wawasee area? Al

We live in Bluffton so Salamonie is where we go on a regular basis. However we spend a week at Wawasee every summer and are spending a week on the Barbee chain also this summer. We are planning to run up to Barts in the next couple of weeks, so maybe we could stop by your shop and check out the beast.

Al - That is really cool. Can we see some pics of the whole boat? The overall interior and how the floor blends with the rest of it. I really like what you've done!

The 454 was junk, the original owner did not winterize it 11 years ago. I bought the boat and trailer 2 years ago. The Boat was inside stored the whole time. I ended up throwing away the old big block. I kept the motor mounts and bellhousing. that was it. Al

The teak came from Diamond teak. I buy alot of different types of exotic wood from them. Al

The 496 was pretty easy to blend with the tranny. The 496 is a metric motor however, which means some of the mounting hole sizes are a little smaller. Once I had the bell housing hooked up to the block the tranny went on great. I kept the OEM location for the starter on the 496 though. Getting the cooling system and charging system to fit under the hatch was a challenge though. The exaust manifold bolted on but the port sizes are different, alot of grinding was done on every port. Yes the Engine Is Fuel injected, I am using a Volvo Hi pressure and low pressure fuel pump. I had to locate onto the aft side of the engine. The charging system and mount including all pullys are from Cruisader, this was the most compact. The engine hatch just clears the manifolds and cooling system. Al
