never felt so good. My wife and I left the kids and cold behind and took a week to visit the small Caribbean Island of Bonaire, Netherland Antilles.

Winter sucks so I thought I'd share a few pics with you to warm you up. Weather has been mid 80's all week with water temps 79-80 degrees.

This is a dive trip for us but there have been several wakeboarders, kiteboarders and windsurfers out and about this week. Oh and some skiing too:rolleyes:.

That is SO awesome. I got my dive certification in Australia when I was deployed and my advanced back in CA. Then.... I moved home to Eastern Washington State where there is NO diving. I am kind of bummed about that. Looks like you are having a GREAT time.

I have many more pics but I'll stop in fear of boring you to tears. I just hope it warms up soon in the states. Come on summer!

Scottie these pics are amazing!! Thanks for the new desktop wallpaper (first and third pics). I went scuba for the first time on Cozumel two years ago. AMAZING!!!! My disposable camera took the worst pics - please tell us about your camera setup! Please post many more pics if it is not too much trouble. Any links you may have to info about the island are appreciated too! I can google I know, but maybe you have something handy. Did you like the island? Sounds private and secluded?? (Looking for a honeymoon location!) Thanks!

Mikey,

The island is Bonaire. It is part of the ABC islands....Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao. It is a Dutch Caribbean island located just a few miles north of Venezuela. This is my second trip here so I obviously like it but I like diving. Bonaire is mostly known for its shore diving, windsurfing and bird watching.

As far as it goes for a Honeymoon...depends on you and your new to be wife. If you are into all inclusive type resorts, then this is not the place. There are some very nice resorts but this is the type of island that you must get a rental truck and just take off and have fun exploring the island. It is a very unique island in many respects. I love the freedom that it offers and for the most part it is very safe. There is a little petty theft but thats about it. It is very easy to navigate the island and most speak english. The local currency is guilders (NaFl) but the USD is readily accepted. It is a very relaxing place and most people love it for it's laid back attitude/atmosphere. If you are a diver, it will spoil you forever. Let me know if you need any info and I'd be glad to help.

Scottie,

Thanks for all the pics - I'm sooo jealous. Been diving for 30 years (yes, I'm middle aged, but started bowing bubbles early) - mainly western Carribbean. Bonaire has always been on my to-do destinations. You lucky dog. One of these days...

Mikey,
If you're looking for a secluded get-away, I'd suggest looking into Northwest Point Resort on Provo in Turks & Caicos islands. We stayed there two summers ago to celebrate my wife kickin' cancer's A$$. Provo is best known for Grace Bay beach (touted as one of the world's 10 best) and good diving. It's a high end island, but NW Point was actually quite reasonable. Basically a small group of condo units, but it's situated way away from everything (~10 mile gravel road trip to town). Evidently summer is the "off season" - the place was pretty deserted. We literally spent hours at a time on our beach and never saw another soul. Grace Bay was beautiful & pretty hoppin'. We're not big party animals, but supposed to have a good night life in town. We mainly just crashed at the beach drinking local brew, made some great dives (lots of turtles), and ate most every meal at The Conch Shack.

Great pictures. Looks like a total blast. Very beautiful too. It's natural beauty and wonder like you're seeing that makes me question why people can think it all happened by chance. I love the different sea creatures that are super camoflauged...cool stuff.
