I have a few bunkers I want to replace and need to carpet them all. Looking for ways to do this with boat on trailer. I am wondering if I can use a jack and large board to hold weight and replace one at a time. Any suggestions would be great.

I did the ones on my last boat, but off the trailer. I had them all made up ahead of time, launched the boat at a non-busy time and ties it to the dock while I swapped them out real quick.

I did the same (except what I was doing was to replace the carpet, the wood was fine)
so it wasn't "real quick". I had the boat in the water. while I did this.

Make sure you use stainless steel staples on the carpet install ...

I used a jack to rock an 18' outboard to replace bunks before - worked fine. With the length/weight of a Saltare, I'd use two jacks between the two bunks on one side with a big piece of 3/4 or 1" plywood over each to spread out the load (or a 2x12 spanned over the two jacks). Of course, take it nice & slow and watch/listen for any problems.

I cant use a dock because I run mainly on Missisppi river. So being able to do it at home is key for my application. Two jacks and 2x12 should work. Just trying to get all feedback in case someone has better idea.

You are supposed to be able to support the boat by strapping bow eye and transom eyes, right?

Seems like it may be easier to lift it than to jack up from underneath...

Just another option. I have never done it either way. I have always prepared the boards ahead of time. Launched the boat and had the wife come pick me up when done while she went out and played. (Called on cell phone).

Salty, when we go camping, the boat is in the water alot. So this is the time I always end up doing bunk repair/maint. Power at the campsite too!

That's a good idea.

Any of you ever use Ultimate Bunk Boards or another brand Bunkaps?

Both of these products are a Polyurethane. Seems like a no brainier compared to redoing the carpets again.

Lower the tounge on the trailer as far as you can -- this will raise the rear of the boat about 1 foot. Now block the back of the boat with cement blocks with the top layer being wood to protect the bottom, or use boats stands (popits) or anything to support the back end of the boat and on both sides so it is steady. Now take a jack and place it near the bow and jack the front of the boat up to meet the height of the back of the boat. Your boat will be suspended about a foot or more above the trailer bunks letting you do the work needed.

When I did mine I just jacked up under the very back corner. Then replaced one at a time. I like the last idea posted though. It sounds like it would be easier, and you have better chance to support it proper.

I did the same thing. Quick and painless, for the most part.
