Well -- Just talked to my local canvas guy and sounds like a custom-made sunbrella cover is now costing ~$1200. Too rich for my blood. I have found a TON of online sites that claim to have a custom cover for a saltare, but once I call and ask if it's truly a custom cover based on my EXACT BOAT they say it's a semi-custom cover designed for a v-drive with open bow and walk-through window. Not what I want. Anyone have cover suggestions?

2559I bought a semi custom cover and made it into a custom cover. I looked a bunch also and this was only way to go for me. Here are some pics.

Who made that cover/who did you order it through? It looks functional but not pretty -- I don't think I'm going to be getting away from spending the $1000 on a custom made cover. Looks like a custom one with tower slots is ~$500 -- is that roughly what you paid?

once you factor in shipping plus tower cut-outs, $500 is pretty close.

i got this from iboats, it fits really good. no leaks. i wish it covered the platform.

I assume you had a local shop handle the tower cut-outs? I like the way that one fits but it looks like a strap already broke off? I also want one that covers my swim deck and the local guys are willing to do that for me. I wish I could find something in the middle -- I'd be willing to pay $750 for a nice cover that was exactly what I wanted and fitted the boat perfectly.

My cover was a semi custom I bought from Overtons. I then sewed in velcro, tower cut outs, pole cups and flaps for rope. It was like 350 and I paid about 15 bucks for extra material and velcro. I already had marine grade sewing thread.

yeah, local shop did cut-outs for about $100. i'm sure they could have added a section for the platform. brightening the teak doesn't bother me too much. i kind of like seeing it turn grey and then making it look new again.

the iboats cover is pretty nice quality, esp for the price. there are loops sewn in for the straps, none of them have broken. there's a rope sewn in as well, the local shop cut it and set it up for use with the cut-outs.

edit....i just searched iboats and it looks like they've changed. when i ordered mine, it wasn't for a 24' inboard or whatever they show now. bummer.

I have looked at those covers as well. I dont have a tower so I maybe able to get a semi-custom to fit. Do they do a good job keeping the water out?

You might want to check out MightyCovers.com, I spoke with them a couple of months ago, about a boat cover (http://www.mightycovers.com/Boat-Cover.htm) for my Boston Whaler. They were just taking on a new manufacturer that made covers for practically any boat made. They had mine, that I could not find anywhere.

Wouldn't this protect it well?

Since you live close I can show you the place to go but it is a little out of the way.. $650 out the door and its with sunbrella material, Poles, tower cut outs with velcro , covers w/velcro over the cleats and they mount the snaps

Thanks for the heads-up, looks like a custom cover is my near future! They are only about 3 hours from me! How long did they need your boat?

39883987I suggest you look at and talk to Cory Anderson from Evolutioncovers.com he made my custom fit cover and it fits awsome. I have travelled with it and used it moored. It cost me $800 and it is worth every penny!

My last 2 custom covers were $675 and $725 from a local custom shop. I don't know who quoted over $1000 but that is crazy. I would get more quotes.

I got 3 local quotes and all of them were over $1000. One guy said he could do everything I wanted for "just $2800." I told him I thought he was completely out of line and he backpedaled and said maybe he could do it for "$2200."

I'm still looking for a good, breathable cover and until I find one, I just clean and vaccuum the boat every time I go out.

Wow. I don't know where Hudson WI is but I had my last two covers made in Lake Geneva, WI. I can give you names if you would like. Custom covers are much less than $1000. My last cover was made of aqualon which I like much better than sunbrella. It is 100% water proof with a felt on the inside so it does not scratch the boat. They put in vents for the cover to breath since the cover was not breathable. I had no issues even covering the boat wet. The boat dried 100% (much better with that material than my new boat does with Sunbrealla). I think another custom cover is on the horizon for me because I really don't like the Supra factory cover the boat came with.

Hudson, WI is just outside of St. Paul, MN. I'll keep trying to find someone.... I'm not sure of the material my old cover is made out of but it keeps moisture IN and causes big time moisture problems and mildew. It's much easier for me to just clean the leaves out and let it get rained on then to let it sit with the cover holding all that hot air inside.

Can you have somebody sew vents into the existing cover? I wish I had a better picture but I will try to describe it. Imagine taking a 4 inch length of PVC pipe (4" diameter perhaps) and cut it in half lingth wise. Now take some material that looks like it could be from a screen door and put that over the two halfs of the PVC pipe length wise. That is essentially my vents (there are 4 of them). They are sewn into the cover with the matching cover material over them. They keep the rain/bugs out but let air in and out. I would cover the boat when it was wet from wakeboarding all the time and it was always dry the next day. Here is the best picture I can find of my old boat/custom cover

Has anyone tried the cover from monster tower?
