So im just about to finish up the 89 salter just waiting on the guy to get the seats done and find a 2000 malibu lsv for $3000 I mean the boat is in bad shape new engine new windshield new interior but the hull is solid and its all fiberglass at this point its a no brainer to me. So I got the boat and now i have the supra and the malibu next to each other in the back yard and im looking and comparing and to be honest with you guys the supra just looks bad ass I mean the lines are just so sexy it seems like the whole thing just flows it just looks super nice even the wife agrees with me on that the malibu just seems to boxy and no sexy lines. Then I figure I need to start figuring out how to put this thing back together so I logged in to the malibucrew website and let me tell you I think so far every malibu owner seems like pompous ass neat freak super dushy bag douchebag I have ever seen and the things they do to those boats its outrageous how much aftermarket stereos and bs they put on those boats and they still cant compare to the supras I guess a pig with lipstick is still a pig after all

I'm not a HUGE Malibu fan (too pricey) but I do really like the new Axis line they have come out with. I got to see one this weekend and it seems to be a very thought out boat. Not a perfect boat but very nice nonetheless.

Keep us posted on your project (with pics).

Not a big fan of the old "bu's", but do like how the looks have evolved. Heck, all the mfg's have matured and put some real luxury out on the water - to the point I'd almost be afraid to get some of them wet! Electronic this, power that...

I use my truck as a truck - it get's dirty & scratched, the 4wd is necessary at times, etc. I do take care of it with maintainence, but it gets used. I like my boats the same way.

Yes, how bout some updated pics? I could use some inspiration to keep after my own 89 Salt project.

I rode behind/drove an '09 23 LSV last year (friend at works boat) and they are nice boats. Very large and spacious, they have a great ballast system in them and produce a great wake. I was not a fan of the tower, it wobbled and I dont care for the look of the eliptical style. A lot of bling of the newer bu's, but defiinitely a solid nice ride.... but then again, all the newer wakeboard boats are really nice....

I still have not drove in or rode behind a SAN 230 (ski air nautique), I really like the way they look and would love to drive one and get a tow behind one someday.

i like the design of the V-Drive Malibus like VLX oder 23lsv. I do not really like the design of the Axis. In our region, the Axis are in the price range of Moomba and the Malibus are more expensive then the Supras.

I really like the Malibu, my decision was between the 24SSV and the VLX and I went with the 24 for several reasons, main one was the size and room for the $.

My next inboard will be a 21 or 22. The 24 is a lot more boat than I originally perceived, maneuverability, trailering, etc..

Don't like the Axis at all, overall fit & finish feels cheap. I'd buy a Moomba before the Axis.

I thought the same thing until I had a chance to get up in one. I was extremely impressed. All of the little things they thought up really means a lot IMO. Just a cool boat. Now granted, I was in their top of the line Vandall Edition. I'd def consider one. The main thing I didn't like was the manual wedge but I've never tried one so it may be fine.

I am not really a fan of starting threads to rip on other brands. I do agree that they are crazy overpriced and everyone (even owners) say their wakes are all-ramp no boot. But if you are more about family luxury cruising, I'm sure it's a very nice boat.

I looked at the SunSetter when comparing to the SunSport....no contest.

You seriously got a 2000vlx for $3000??????!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WTF that is a freaking STEAL tell us more and lets see some pics

Thats interesting, I was just thinking how it would be nice to have a 24' boat. Unfortunately I would have to remove the swim platform to fit in my garage, and its more weight than my Sequoia can handle to tow. And one lake I visit would have problems launching a 24' boat because of the ramp and space allowed to back up. So a 22' will probably be as big I ever can go.

I also noticed when shopping, the 24' SSV did not have as much interior room as I thought it would. A lot of the space was added to the rear of the boat for compartment size, which is great for adding larger bags. Not so good for people space. I think the beam was 102" on the 24' compared to 100" on my 22.

People are not bashing other brands, just giving there opinion on other boats. Mikey, its okay, people can talk about other boats other than a Supra.....

It isn't just Malibu, but Mastercraft has went down in quality as well. I drove a X80 this past weekend, delivering to the customers pier. What a POS. This boat design is terible for driving, Handles like an old Coronado. The turning radious is huge. I will take my old Beast any day. Don't get me started on the toweres, YUK. Al

I saw an X45 on the water the other day with a complete wetsounds system, it sounded as good as it looked... my buddy said MC makes nice boats, how much would that X45 go for? I said you are probably looking at 100k, especially with the sound system he had in it. He then mentioned nobody should ever spend 100k on a ski boat!!!

Hey, why not if you have the $... there is a buyer for everything! I can only imagine what an X80 would go for!

Boat beauty is a personal view in my opinion, I have never really liked the way the SAN's looked and thought the towers were the ugliest around. Then I went and test drove one and it felt like an underpowered pig...all for 95K. My wife and kids loved it tho. The salesman was pretty nice and tried hard to get me into one right up until i finally decided to go Supra. Then he slammed Supra about good luck trying to get service when they go under like alot of other boat companies. Personally I believe most of the boats are equal, as alot use the same engine and components. I don't know how many times the SAN salesmen have used the our engine is mounted horizontal rather than on a slant as everyone else which is better......I guess they may have had a valid point on dd's but their whole reasoning is lost on vdrives.......since the boat is not level pretty much 80% of the time or at 60 psi oil pressure a 10% incline is not going to affect oil distribution. That being said I still think they are good boats , just not for me.
Sorry for the rant .....Boats are like jeans....you can pay $20 up to $100+...the fabric (fibreglass) and the stitching (components) are the same (close) It depends how well the qc is that particular day they're put together no matter the manufacturer.
Then it depends how well you take care of them....the previous owner of the bu obviously didn't. I do believe that 90% or more of the members in here baby their boats and find it appalling when they find someone , or one that hasn't been.
Then if you don't know the open from the closed end of a wrench you better buy your boat from your nearest dealer as you and he are going to become very close buddies weather you like it or not. Which is one of the reasons i like SC, and their forum sites, they are always around to help and with all the members someone to help you out with most any problem.

just .02 and another .02 .02 .02 .

now dump on me :)

Beast - the tower is the NUMBER one reason I would not go with a MasterCraft.
I took some heat for that as well, since for the last several years, the MC dealer
was the title sponsor of our Hydrofoiling tournament -- he was not too happy with
me that I bought somewhere else, but I said - Gotta be happy sir.

I do have to add that the lines of the supra's are just plain sexy with a bit of mean in them.......I know i have the 21v but the 20, 22 and 24 are absolutely beautiful on the water with their low profile nose

I may just be too old, Inboards should be for raw power, great sound, and performance driving. The new X 80 does not have any of this. The boat just handles so bad. I really like having the flat bottom center engine brute horse power. Al

Good considering the amount of space available for 3 pumps in the 24. Only issue so far has been my bonehead move of cutting the thru-hull stem shorter forgetting pipe threads are tapered. Luckily I'm in the industrial supply business and have ways of cutting new threads.

I still need to finish the ballast, install the WS420, complete my interior LED's and mount my new chart plotter. Once my long list of mods are done I'll post everything.

OK, I'll weigh in. MC's towers look like a 5 year old designed it. Or it was drawn on a napkin after a drink or 2. Lol. One straight bar and side plates..they made money (profit) on that one. I like the BU's 2nd fav boat out there. MC's hull lines are great, looks like a 200 mph boat, the tower was just a brain fart. I think they did it for profit, they saved a lot of money building that thing. I've never seen a BU falling apart (im sure their are some) and think they build a great boat. Jet

I loved my 84. In the water it looked evil coming at you. Sleek and very low profile. We never had any issues with it either.

I had a 4 hour drive for a 23 ft bu or an 8 hr drive for a 24ssv. I went with supra for price vs features. I'm not concerned that supra is going outof business Nytime soon. It's preference, I think all the wakeboat players are solid companies though. If money were no option I'd prob have an xstar or x45 but that's not the case.

I love my supra and can't wait to pull up to the dock right next to an mc bu or natique this summer. :)
