Hey Grav,

It's fairly simple. Here's an old Alternator diagram that I found a long time ago which helped me figure out what is what and what should go where, my memory escaped me completely but I'll go snap some pics of how mine is wired on when I get a chance this weekend, but this diagram helped me a lot and should give you a good start.

Hope it helps!

I'm thinking about ordering this same alternator, and I am wondering if this will work for an '86 PCM 351 as well.

My big concern is wiring thing up. I looked at the diagram, but I'm not good with electrical things  . Any help would be appreciated.

These are actually even simipler than the diagram... Your old alternator is a 3-wire setup... the new ones are 1-wire alternators which means (I assume) that they ground themselves through the chasis. You only need to hook up a postive cable to the + side of the battery and you are good to go. I used 00-gauge wire (but I have a lot of stereo equipment and am running everything at 0 or 00 gauge.) I'd recommend at LEAST 4-gauge.

Mani -- It is a "universal" fit alternator and it should work. You might want to double-check with a quick call to DB, first. They have always been easy to work with.

I just replaced mine this weekend. I went with the 10SI model. It bolted right in and used the existing Positive and ground. It took all of about ten minutes to replace. Great price..

Wotan, I'm running 00 wires on both batteries. The new alternator that's coming in today is the 105 amp version of the single wire.

I'm still wondering about the third wire on my current alternator. Do I need to just leave this one hanging, too?

Also, my current positive wire off the alternator runs into my wiring harness, which will not accept that large of a wire. Should I just bypass it and run a 4 guage or larger wire directly to the battery selector?

Sorry about all the question, but I'm not very good with electrical things.

No problem -- I bypassed the wiring harness and just ran it directly. The third wire I just clipped off as close to the wiring harness as possible and then sealed it off with electrical tape. Others may have better ideas?

Okay, so I got the alternator in (beefy, I like it :D), got 2 gauge wire running from the alternator post to the battery selector's common positive wire. I figure this way, I'll be able to still use my selector switch, instead of having it run to only one battery.

The positive, ground, and third wires, I clipped off and masked with electrical tape, to prevent a shorts and sparks from flying. The positive wire from the wiring harness is still a hot wire when a battery is selected. Is this normal?
