Ordered 3/16 wax rope shaft packing for my 96 ts6m comp. After taking out old packing I realize I got the wrong size. Old had 2 pieces of 1/4 inch. So I call ski dim. And the lady tells me. Dont worry the 3/16 will work. Just put more in. She says she knows for a fact it will work. She said thats why we never question the size people order. So I put 4 pieces in staggering the joints and snugged her up. Wont be able to test till the weekend. Just wondering if anyone knows if this will work. Or should I just order the 1/4 inch. Pretty easy to get to on my boat.

I've never done it that way, but it seems like it would work OK.

FWIW..... we do it all the time on the pump shafts at work. If the old packing was 1/2" and all we have is 3/8 , we might have to add an extra piece and tighten packing nut / flange a lil more ( use caution here )...and on the flip side , we might have only 5/8 on us and we would flatten it out a bit to use where 1/2 is needed . NOT A STANDARD practice with us , but will work when needed.
