Lifted boat and Rutter out of the mud in last weeks storm and pulled the platform loose from the holders. The platform on these comps are way to small, so I was thinking:

Should I rebuild it? Pull out old soft wood and lace in new wood and fiberglass in?

or

Should I build me a larger platform made of Teakwood with molded in handles?

Down falls?
What do you think? Jet

I would just cut out the old rotten wood and replace it with new then fiberglass over it.
If you go bigger you may have a dragging issue?

Have you considered composite decking? Teak looks sharp but requires maintenance. The ski school I worked for replaced all the swim grids with ones made of plastic wood. It was durable, maintenance free, easy to build, and you can get a variety of colors and finishes. Only downfall I found the brand we used was a bit slick.

Rebuild as original or build a nice teak platform. Your comp is far too nice to use cheap plastic decking. Please don't take offense. Al

I am not sure why everyone is affraid of Natural oiled teak? I give mine a nice coat after every other outing and it still looks new. I love the new solid teak floor, we have had it out a dozen times or so an I could not be happier. No more wet nasty carpet. When the teak gets wet, the water just disappears, runs off, soakes in, evaporates. 2nd oiling on teak floor now, Al

There was a guy selling larger MC platforms on ski-it-again.com a while back.. might find something there. I would just rebolt the current platform.

If you would have parked the correct way like the rest of us you wouldn't have had this problem. You messed up our photo op. so Karma is repaying you.

It looks like the other boats in the photo are really water logged. Did they leave the water in the ballast tanks? And if so why? Al

I think the one in the very middle has probably 400lbs of batteries that are giving it that lean.

While teak looks nice, the functionality of the fiberglass with the handles is great. I get more people complimenting the boat because the platform is easy to climb up, or just hang onto while swimming or floating.

Plus teak can be slick, and when putting on a wakeboard I don't need some rookie sliding his board into the back of my gelcoat. Plus when we do have big tie-ups out here, people use the platforms to get from boat to boat. I prefer a rubberized traction mat to a teak platform that can be slick.

You should see what the rookies have done to my swim platform, and the transom of the boat.

I agree, the problem I had was that my dogs paws kept getting caught in the handrail and then last summer our neighbors 5year old boy got his foot got stuck. So I removed the handrail and rubber mats, coated the platform with rubber nonskid and installed a rubrail.

Jet, I would replace the fiberglass with teak. It will cost a lot more than repairing the glass but teak looks great and you can still incorporate cutout handles.

This is what I just did:

Well, It dint take long to get to the water soaked wood and some blood too! I'll keep some pick coming. Im sure thinking about using some of that fake wood instead of replacing it with real wood. Jet

Already got about eleven hours since the rebuild. After this weekend it's going back to the shop to have everything retightened, and final projects, and adjustments done. Good luck on your platform.

OK, DONE! Final pictures below. I pulled the platform out 1" and installed it there so I would have a little bit bigger platform to sit on. You can see my hand fits behind it now. I used a can of primer as a color and painted it with that to cover up the fiberglass. This fix was easy It took about 3-4 hrs, 1-hr a day till finished. If you have any questions hit me up. Jet
