pertronix and ballast resistor

i've had a pertronix breakerless conversion kit laying around for about a year. it's time for a tune-up and i want to put it to work but i've never figured out what's the deal with the ballast resistor.

are you guys by-passing it?

You will need to bypass it to get the 12v to the coil. You can run a new wire to a ignition activated 12v source. I just put all connections on the same terminal on the ballast resistor.
