Is there an easy way to visually tell where the largest point of the wake is from inside the boat? Is it where the wake folds over?

From my understanding, you want the rope length to be right in front of where the wave breaks. If you are boarding next to the wake, it should break right behind you. Maybe a foot or so.

Adjust your speed and length to find the right combination for you. It varies from boat to boat but could be anywhere between 20 and 24. The newer people usually like the rope shorter and the more experienced like it longer. Longer will get you further out to the side and allow you to get more speed coming in. As the rope length gets longer, you will need more speed.

If you are able to just jump the wakes, start out with a 65 foot line. This will put you aboue 20' past the rooster tail and about 5' in front of where the wave breaks. Check my vids.
