Anyone running the ACME 912 or 542? I'm in need of a new prop and just looking for some feed back. I'm leaning more toward the 912 because I heard it's more of a Surfing prop for boats weighted over 2000lbs. I'm only pushing 1750 lbs but who knows, I may aquire another sac over the winter. I'm wondering what the specs are for the 540 and 542 if anyone happens to know. I'll call ACME directly before I make a final decision. Oh and JT Nettle is the cheapest prop man in the business. Believe me I've been searching for a week now!

Memmer remind me - your boat is an 89, what is your trans grear ratio (1:1) and stock prop??

I went with the ACME 913 13x10.5 3 blade.

You would not be able to use the 912 because it's RH rotation for Correct Craft boats. :)

Mikey, Mine is 1:23.1 RH PCM tranny. Same as by buddies 92 Natique. I'm pretty sure the 912 is the same as yours only RH.

With the 1.23: reduction gear you wil need more pitch than either of those porps have. Those are props for 1:1 transmissions.

Sorry I was under the impression Supra never made a RH rotation boat. 912 is the same as mine but opposite rotation.

What are the specs on the 542 again?

Mikey, The 542 is a milder version of 912.
Acme-542 3 blade 13x11.5, .080 cup, 1" bore, RH only
I found this link that gives all the specs for ACME props.

ejojprop, What OJ prop and pitch would you suggest for my boat? I run 1000 lb when we wakeboard and about 1750 when we surf. I plan to run a little over 2000 lbs by next summer. I'm curious if you would suggest a 3 or 4 blade prop for my 1:23.1 Trans.

Thanks,
James

I am no where near OJ or Nettles level of knowledge, but I would wager you would be recommended a 4-blade because of your trans. Was your stock prop a 13" diam?? I thought they were 14's or were capable of running a 14" but again my boat is not like that so I am not positive.

IF you were running a 3-blade I would recommend the 13x10.5 because it is great for surfing and you didn't mention a need for slalom or barefoot speeds. The 10.5 tops out at about 35mph at 4200rpm in my boat. But the hole shot is amazing. Passangers need to hold on to something if I gun it. Surf speed in 3 seconds approx.

Mikey,

I spoke to JT yesterday and he recommended the ACME 540. He shipped it out yesterday and should be here before the weekend. He gave me a great deal, all I had to de was say your name!

On another note, I got my prop shaft in and the damn bell housing was already on it. Now I have to find a machine shop to press it off. I should of just paid the extra 40 bucks and got the one from Skidim. Damnit!!!!!

Hate to say it but a 13 X 12 will not be enough pitch for that gear ratio. Watch for the motor to over rev. JT should have called here first.

JT said I can send it back if I don't think it's for me.

Thats reasonable. Might not be enough pitch or diameter, more of a 1:1 ratio standard size. Should spin up fast.

Memmer what is the stock prop you started with?

Did you try contacting Acme directly? I did and they gave me these two suggestions. Speed/Slalom/Barefoot > 422; 12.5-15.5 or Power/Wake/Surf > 1868; 12.5-14.25. The both where four blades. The original three blade Michigan 14-14 RH is still on my boat. I have a 1990 Sunsport w/351 & 1.23, RH.

Man I'm pissed! The prop shaft that I ordered was about 2 inches too short. No I have to send it back and wait another week for a replacement.

My stock (or the one that came with my boat) prop was a 14x14. I did contact ACME and they suggested a 480 4 blade or a 430 3 blade.

Appears I needed to read your original post better... oops.

Weird. Our boats are the same and Acme suggested different props? Huh?

techsledder,

I run about 1000lbs of ballast when wakeboarding and 1750lbs when surfing. I told them I wanted a prop that will push all that ballast weight plus all my passangers.

Do you run any fat sacs or ballast?

Not yet ;). Future plans are to surf my rig. I'll call them again and see what they say on that 1868. They did say it's a new prop they came up with. I don't remember the specifics other than they thought it would be a good choice for wakeboarding / surfing.

I did a few Google searches and found that most people that use the Acme 1868 (12.5 x 14.25), own the 2010 Ski Nautique 200.

Techsledder I thought I rememnered you asking for a prop that would pull some weight but also have top speed for slalom skiing. What are the stats on the prop they recommended for you Tech?? If I am reading right Memmer is looking for a prop for mainly surfing which would be a different pitch.

I talked with Acme again last evening. A strict power prop for my boat they maintained the 1868 for heavy ballast wake-boarding and bagged boat for surfing. A good all around prop they said to use their 659 (12.5-15) if I was only surfing and still doing my skiing with out weighted wake-boarding. The 422 was going to be for strict speed. All are four blades & are claimed to be at 80% efficiency.

Acme is very helpful on the phone, and in my experience so far with them, they are right every time with suggesting a good prop for your application as long as you have good information - boat length, engine, transmission, and what you use your boat for. Also knowing what's on there currently, and what speed and RPM you turn at wide open is helpful.
For prop specs, here's the complete list, acme and OJ:

So JT was reading this thread last weekend and gave me a call. I guess I forgot to mention to him that my boat was a 1.23:1 tranny. He went ahead and shipped me the ACME 480 4 blade at no charge along with a pre paid shipper to return the 540. That's what I call customer service, JT your the MAN!!

I finally got everything back together. It's been over a month since my boat has seen some water. New 44.5 inch prop shaft and the ACME 480 from JT Nettle. Here's a pic, can't wait to go camping this weekend!!!!
