30 minutes of wet sanding and I think I'm doing it right. It hasn't looked this good in a while, I'm sure. Started with a 400 sponge in some spots, then went up to 1500. 3M rubbing compound with my new buffer and finished off with towel-applied boat wax.

Now I just gotta figure out whose going to do the other 99% of it. ;)

what really sucks is after you do get the second side done the first side will look the same again without a good gel or clearcoat lol i never can seem to get it done fast enough

Maple, there's other things I do that make me feel like a man. ;) lol

Jake, it used to look like this when I got it. I didn't keep up with up and now I have to spend a heap of hours doing this. When the mechanic pulled the top cap for the stringer rebuild he left the top sitting out for five weeks with no cover, too. Once I'm done it's getting wiped off after every trip and waxed once every two weeks. Hopefully that'll keep the shine.

Here's what she looked like a year ago when I brought her home.

Yuck.... No matter what I do, I can't get the chalkiness to stay off my boat for more than half a season. It's great below the rub-rail, but above it... the red fades out in 6-8weeks no matter how often I wax it. My best guess is that the sun fades it out but my cover is in good shape and I can't justify the $1200 for a new custom-made one..... Arghhh!!

Until then, I'll just keep buffing, buffing, buffing.

My upper deck looks ok, but the black hull looks very chalky. I have tried using cleaning compound and a buffer, but it make no change, still chalky. So I guess I will have to wetsand and polish the hull, and I am not looking forward to either doing it, or maintaining it. Some times I wonder if it makes more sense to mask, scotchbrite, and paint the visible side of the hull with a good gloss black polyurethane. Then it would hold a shine for years!
