I have an '89 Sunsport with a 351W PCM with a 4 bbl Holley carb.

The motor starts great, idles great, and seems to run good at full throttle...anything in between has been an issue as of late. The problems seemed to start just after I hit decent bump while going about 30 mph in the water which caused the motor to nearly die...just spit and sputter until I got it back to full throttle. Now it seems to do it all of the time.

Since I recently purchased the boat, I am having to chase down a lot of gremlens since it wasn't taken care of by the previous owner. So I figured I would just bite the bullet and replace the carb since it probably needs to be rebuilt anyway. Unfortunately, I don't have the boat with me and forgot to get any numbers off of the carb.

Any suggestions on the best place to buy a rebuilt replacement? Also, did they come with a 450, 600, or 650 CFM?

This is the model carb used by the Supra 351 PCM engines ( http://www.holley.com/0-80319-1.asp)

Overhauling is simple and cheap, much cheaper than replacing with new or a remanufactured unit. The kits are about $60 on SKIDIM (http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RN0118). Iv'e found them for about $20 on Ebay stores. I'd give this a try before I'd cough up $500-ish for new.

Thanks! I've rebuilt one carb before, I think an autolite, and swore I'd never do it again. This kit looks a lot easier so I might give it a try.

Would this be the correct fuel filter?

My boat has the spin on canister style fuel/water separator that looks alot like this: http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SIE18-7852-1.

I am not sure if this is it. I replaced my canister with a NAPA part, but I can't recall the number off hand. Mine didn't have a fuel filter other than the separator, although I did just add an in-line filter between the pump and the carb.

my local napa ordered my 4160 rebuild kit for $26 and had it in-store the next morning @ 7 am.

Damn, wish i had known that before buying it from skidim...they usually have the best prices around not double the price!
