I asked in an earlier thread about stringers and year of construction. So continuing on that, are there any major concerns with the hull quality on the boats that have fiberglass hulls and stringers? Looking at getting a 92-98 saltare.

Thanks for any insight!

Winger,
I have a '92 Saltare with all composite construction. I have to say that I
don't know what kind of issues that you would have to look for. You wouldn't have the stringer floor issues of the pre '92 boats. I'm not sure when the last year you could get the 454 was. I bought mine with the idea
that I could use it for anything from wakeboarding to barefooting. It would take a LOT of weight to be able to surf.

Your saltare should have the same hull as mine... 1800lbs in the back corner makes a damn good surf wake!

My mechanic recommended looking for a boat with the power transmission option (most Supras newer than 87 should have this, it's displayed on the engine. Mine says VelvetDrive 1:1, the newer ones would say PowerSlot 1:1.23 or some such), and the 454 or a larger engine than the 351 if something else is offered in a newer model. This is to help compensate for the heavy weight and low speeds of wakeboarding and surfing. And a power prop is a must to extend your engines life.

Thanks for the info. Love the Saltare, thinking of getting a 92" or newer, just don't have the time to work thru a stringer/deck rebuild. Seems to be the standard on a 20 year old boat. Appreciate the response, hope to be on the water in 2011 with a Saltare.
