What does everyone use?

I use a sinking handle.

Floating and floating rope -- can't STAND the ones that sink -- makes it hard
to get back to the rider and not have to fight the rope.

In 15 years of boating, one time have I caught a rope (knock on wood) -- and that was
because the boob in the water was yelling the exact WRONG thing ... Guess we should
have worked out the signals. He kept yelling SLACK SLACK ... I though he was ASKING
for slack, so I backed up. Spent the next 10 minutes getting the rope out.

All of mine are floaters.

Most are floating, easier for the kids and beginners.

I prefer floating so they are easier to see where they are. I have 2 floaters and 1 sinker. The sinker actually caught on the bottom once. I was letting the rope flow thru my hand and felt the line get tight before I had the handle (10' of water). I yelled reverse.

Since then, we put

Floating Handle, Floating Rope. Hard enough with kids and friends, wife, her friends, dog and everything else going on while teaching someone how to wakeboard and guess where the rope is.

I have the ones that sink, but they don't sink that fast. Haven't given it to much thought, but the next time I buy I will have a new decision to make.

Can someone explain to me the point of a sinking handle?

There isn't any point to a sinking handle, the manufacturer was to cheap to put some floatation in it. It's the grip and style of bar that you want to look at, if you have 2 identical handles one floats and the other does not I would take the one that floats, you can see where it is in the water and there should never be an excuse to run it over.

I will have to do some research but I thought you had a choice. I didn't figure a 65 handle was to cheap of a handle. I also don't feel that our sinking handle gives us any difficulty. I assumed the point was so you can turn around sharply and not worry about the rope.
From what I have read on these forums it doesn't sound like its that easy not to run over a floating handle. I do see how a floating handler would be easier for new riders, though.

My handles all sink, and I always assumed that was by design. After turning around the skier, and heading on the outbound heading, I always see my rope and handle heading the other way, in fact its my signal to shift to nuetral to let the skier find the rope handle and get prepared. I noted that the handle was about 3 feet below the surface, and decided this was a good thing because it might actually miss the prop if I ever accidently drifted over the rope. A rope in the prop does little if any real damage, but that handle in the prop would not be cool.
