How do I access the impeller on my 1990 supra sunsport (Ford PCM 351) for inspection and replacement?

Do I have to remove the entire water pump assembly?

There seems to be four bolts connecting the back of the impeller housing to the water pump assembly. Three of the four seem easily accessible, but there's one that I'm not sure how to access without removing other stuff first... Is that the general idea, start removing stuff until I can access all four bolts?

Also, my supra manual said that I can inspect the impeller by just removing the top hose and manually turning the wheel and looking for any wear... is it worth inspecting first or is it a hard fast rule to replace annually. The manual didn't mention replacing on a regular schedule but I seem to remember hearing here that it should be replace each year or so.

Thanks in advance!

Take the water pump off to replace it. Mark the housings on top when you pull apart. As they can be reversed. Mine came right out. If its stuck. Use some lubricant and needle nose pliers. You should replace regularly. I take mine off when I winterize. Per owners manual. And if it still looks good reinstall during summerize. If not replace.

As foxriverat said that is exactly what I do. Here are some pics that might help the arrow points up for installation.
