I just recieved a new set of Roswell stainless clips, my other alum. clips were broken. The new clips are great, unfortunately they only sent me two crimp on bungee clips and one broke when I was installing. So now I need to think of another way to connect the bungee strap around the spline end.

I went to the hardware store and they dont sell the little bungee clips Roswell uses, and I am not a big fan of them anyway. I think its a crappy way to connect the bungee, there has to be something better out there in alum. or stainless.

Anyone have any ideas? appreciate any help, see attached pics,.

Thanks....

I'd also like to know this.... Monster sent me some crimp on clips that are quite a bit better than what you show but I think probably require a special tool when they are installed (I did it with some pliers and they look like monkey-butt.)

I believe McMaster-Carr sells something a little nicer but my OEM racks (no idea who made them) had some great plastic clips that I'm sure required a riveting tool to install. If we could track that down, I'd be willing to purchase the tool and start a little exchange to pass it around for repair/maintenance on these bungies.

Ok... decided to employ my own google-fu and came up with the products we need:

Bungee cords and hooks:

The other product I'd like to find is a nylon, double-barrel sleeve. I can find them in copper or aluminum but not in nylong. They look like these but would be bigger (and I'm not sure how the nylon ones attach?)

I'll just keep going... finally found them!

Scroll down to Shock and Stretch Cord Fasteners.... I'm about to order a bunch of 5/16" to redo my racks with red bungees. Cool!

Wotan, thanks for the links... I like the dead end connector with the loop, that seems like it work. West Marine also sells the plastic hooks that have a nice clean connection.

Called Roswell and the size of the shock cord is 1/4". If anyone has any other connection links please keep 'em coming....

Thanks!

I just found these hooks that I am going to pick up tomorrow from West Marine to replace the hog clips.

I think the hog ties work great.....of course I have 71 more of them to go through in the box I bought for my last repair.

Both my clips have broken as well. Waiting for Roswell to send me new ones. I wish they had an order form for replacement parts on their web site instead of calling and hoping they can help you. I would be willing to pay for this stuff that breaks because of so much use. While waiting I have connected a second small bungee cord with a hook attached to the broken clip. Cheesy looking but it works.

I got mine in 5 days after calling them. Have not tried emails, but calling always seems to expedite the process. The new stainless clips are much better and stronger than the aluminum.

Check out this thread...

Also, instead of using the staples to hold the straps in the back plate tie them in a knot on the backside. This is easier, looks and works alot better.
