I've been looking for months now, and finally ran across what I think is a good deal on the truck I want to replace my aging '93 GMC. I'm buying a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS. It's 2-wheel drive with 5.3L V8, and a 3.73:1 limited slip axle. This truck really has no "frills", but it's got everything I want and the mileage is low. Most importantly, it's a one-owner vehicle that has been treated well. The original owner traded it back in on a new truck from the original dealer. I should pick it up on Monday!

Sounds similar to a truck I had when we had our first couple boats. It was an 04 extended cab 2WD, lowered it 4/6 and had 20's wrapped with 255/45's. Pretty good overall truck.

Yeah the 5.3 pulls my sunsport with ease... and its 4wd and lifted with 35's so 2wd on stock size tires will be a breeze! Oh and on road trips I still get 16-17mpg with 35's so you should do really good on the highway

My 2007 Silverado 6.0 LTZ with the Tow Package was horrible. Although it towed my 07 Sunsport with ease, it did go through three transmission in 10k miles. Leaving me stranding twice. I had it fixed and sold it to CarMax. I will never purchase a GM truck again. I have a new tow toy and tows with ease.

I have heard of "some" driveline problems in the 05-07 4wd GM trucks, but not the 2wd versions. I have had GM vehicles, including trucks and Suburbans for years. I had trans problems in a '99 Suburban, but after a rebuild, it was good. Sometimes I guess you just never know. Hopefully this turns out to be a good one . . .

I still use my Suburban 2500 with the Vortec 454 4wd 285,000 + miles every day. I tow everything from jet ski's to 38' cruisers. I try to limit myself to 20,000 lbs max but sometimes we just have to go a small distance. I change the oil every 3k with 15w40 synthetic blend and tranny fluid every 30 k or once per year whichevever first. Engine and tranny are original no problems at all. Good luck with the new tow rig Al
