This is the block that holds the outside still while the inside moves. The angle that is held down by the strut bolts was loose. I tightened it up. The bolt that holds this block to the angle seemed loose. It would not tighten. I put a wrench on both sides and it was tight. The block is still loose. Is it supposed to be?

Hopefully, there is a picture here.

Thanks, David

Most likely the inside of the clamp block is worn, and needs to be replaced.
Ski Dim has them, cleaned up some slop in my steering when I replaced mine this summer....

maybe the bolt is bottomed out and if you take it apart and add a washer it might be fine, or the bolt rusted in it?

I ran into this same problem and we are not alone.

So many people have vibration in the steering wheel on take-off due this problem.

One guy on the Moomba forums added a teflon washer to take up the slack and his vibrations we solved. I am gonna give it a try this week.

My saltare has slip in this block, just needs to be replaced. Minelooks a little different IIRC, but same idea. There's a ball pivot in there that's just worn and has excessive clearance. It's on my winter project list.

Hah! I'll double-check next time the cover comes off.... but... I've replaced the steering cable, helm, and rudder -- and I don't recall ever seeing that piece.
