New guy checking in from Texas. This is my first Supra. Owned a few Bajas, but never anything else until now. I'll post some more pics up shortly. I guess my only plans for the boat are to tandem the trailer out, and swap the heads to some 1969 year model ones for a little more go out of the hole. The boat already has new paint, new interior, and everything pretty much works as it should. You guys have some nice rides on here.

Welcome & Congrats - looks/sounds like a nice find.

Maybe some "real" mechanics can chime in here, but on the heads - remember these boats prefer high flat torque curves that start on the low end over peaky hp at high rpm's. With cast iron wet exhaust manifolds, you'll be limited in what heads alone can do.

My mechanic told me the cam is a good thing to upgrade since we really want low end torque. Look into a power prop. What do you DO behind the boat?

We're between Houston and Somerville Texas on Hwy 290. We'll be doing a little bit of everything behind the boat. More pics are coming, waiting for the weekend to get here!

If I ever get mine back together, I'll be spending lots of time back at my old stomping grounds - Rocky Creek on Sommerville.

If you have the frequent flyer miles, I'll be there! :)

Young do you have the 1:1.12 (or whatever) power trans? It should say on the engine. If so you will use a different prop than I do.

Where north of Dallas do you guys ride? Our neighbor's grandparents live on Lake Whitney, that's about the only lake we've been to around Dallas. We'll see if we can make it up there around spring time. We just tore the existing axle off and are adding the second axle now once the UPS guy comes. I would think by February the trailer and engine should be done.

It has the pcm 1:23:1 transmission.

Double axle looks great, how did you choose your new axle locations and are you going to reuse your original axle?? Just curious, I always thought this would a nice upgrade.....2600 lb boat (plus gear)on a 3400lb trailer, I thought another axle would help that.....

The axles are centered with the engine between them, which is pretty much where the single axle used to sit roughly. We are using the old axle with the surge brakes, scooting it up, then the new axle is going in behind it. We had to install 4 new springs as well to match everything length wise.

That is coming along nicely. I bet it will end up looking really good and it should handle a lot better.

Wow! Nice job! Is welding/fabrication what you do for a living? Looks like you really know what you are doing!

That turned out nice. I like the space you left between tires and fender. Some trailers are too close IMO.

We left the tire size the same. I used to weld as a side job, nothing ever full-time or career wise though. Just a hobby.

Looks great. We did the same thing to a trailer for our Ski Brendella a couple years ago. I have a Sunsport as well with a trailer from around maybe an 85 model...? I'm in the market to replace the wheels and tires on it. What sizes did you go with on the rims and tires and fenders? Who are they made by? And did you get them locally or did you find a deal through mail order? Just trying to get my ducks in a row with this stuff before I buy something I might regret.

Thanks, David

The wheels are 15x6 with 225 tires on them, got them through Discount Tire. They're MB wheels. The fenders are 9x66. If I had to do it again, I would go with a 15x5 wheel as it's a tight fit with the frame/fender back/boat. It came out great, just had to cut everything and mount it exactly on the money, no room for error or play.
