Some of you already know this thru other connections with me, but
on Tuesday morning, my youngest daughter (20) was in a horrific car
accident in Utah (we live in Colorado).

The police officer that was called to the scene could not even believe she
had lived - he expected to find her dead when he saw the car.

She has head trauma, broken neck (at C2 -- a hangmans fracture),
broken sternum, broken ribs - her liver is shattered and her spleen is torn.
She also has damage to an artery in her neck and numerous SERIOUS abrasions from the seat belt.

She was flown by helicopter to Las Vegas, to the trauma center where she has been in Trauma ICU all week. She's now got a halo on, and has all use of hands/feet so far -- thank God.

She is improving rapidly, to the point where I think we will move to a
regular hospital room today out of the ICU ...

Just letting you know, and asking for your prayers - we know they
are making a difference, and you cannot have too many.

Thanks to all in my Supra Family --

Todd

Sitting all day in a hospital on hard nasty chair's isn't my idea of a week in Vegas, let me tell you!

Update: she has moved out of hte ICU on Sunday. I flew home to Colorado
on Sunday night, and am heading out the door in 15 minutes (after I vote) to drive
back to Vegas (850 miles) to be ready to pick her up when they let her out.

She can't fly because of a partially collapsed lung during the accident, and for sure she
won't be able to make the trip in one long shot, they are recommending 3 days minimum.

LONG road ahead still (no pun intended) for her recovery - at least she's no longer
critical. Had a minor setback yesterday, but hopefully it will be resolved by today.

Thanks for your prayers, they mean a lot to all of us.

Todd

Quick update:

We are now home -- that was an experience, driving her home from Vegas.

Lots of pain.

Now we're into trying to get connected to the doctors locally. This will be a LONG road
to recovery, but ...

ALL the doctors have said it's miraculous that she lived, and is not paralyzed.

Tired, emotionally and physically ... Had to go back to work today - been away for 2 weeks, and I am the team lead and architect ... so far behind.

Please keep praying -- we are not out of the woods yet by any means, but making
daily progress.

Thanks to all.

Hey all,

Long time since i have updated about my daughter. Nuerosurgeon says it's time
for the Halo to come off, and move to a hard collar (she will wear a neck brace
for at least a year).

The other injuries are also all on the mend, and her pregnancy is progressing.

Thanks all,

Now we're asking for prayers that this next step is really ready, and that the people
performing the change from Halo to collar are wise and skilled!

Thanks all,

Todd

Halo off! Collar on!! I'm guessing the hot water heater will be emptied at least once today...hehehe BTW...this is one happy chica, I'm not sure she thought the orthotist should survive (it kinda hurt to have the screws removed from her head), but he did, and so did she. 8-)

Right after it was put on on October 27:

Today, 5 minutes after it came off, and I can tell you, I think all she's thinking about is a SHOWER!!!

By the way...pregnancy? I don't recall you saying anything about her being pregnant earlier in this thread until you brought it up yesterday.

tg0824SSVGG

Yes, she was also pregnant when the accident happened. They expected
Her to lose the baby due to how serious this was.
But she did not

Cool - Oakie (and others) -- she is probably not going to keep this baby.
SHe's only 20, and the "boy" is not really in the picture any longer. We hope that
she chooses wisely, there are SOOOO many people that can't have kids that would
love to have the child she's not ready to raise ...

But thanks.

Wanna see pictures of my other 5 beautiful grand kids???

Okie Boarder
01-22-2011, 10:55 AM
Well I hope she makes the decision that best fits. Kudos for considering giving it up for adoption. We have several friends that have adopted kids and there are definitely lots of people out there that have the means to raise kids moreso than a young lady on her own and they are people that are full of love.

Keep us posted!

Definitely throw out some pics of the other grandkids...would love to see any of them.

Thanks okie, adoption runs in the family, in fact, this young lady
Is one of two kids we adopted ourselves! Our over 3 kids are bio kids

OK - here you go -- the 5 grand babies late last fall -- at the moment they are 5,4,3,2,1 in age - although the 4 year old turns 5 on Valentines day.

My oldest daughter, mother of three of these beauties is a professional photographer. One of my favorite pictures of all time is the one of the youngest of the kiddos with the hat on.

I could post THOUSANDS ... so don't get me started ... :o)

Hey all -- just a follow-up about my daughter that was in the horrific car accident and had countless miracles in her recovery. She's doing GREAT - no more braces or anything, never had any surgeries, and now:

After 30 hours of labor that ended in a c-section, I am pleased to announce the latest miracle:

Silas Mitchell Goin
4:45am
7lb
21 inches

Everyone is tired!

At this point - she has decided to keep the baby - and will be living at my house.
