Interesting that they say it has always been winterized, except for not yet this year and they are an hour from Chicago or Wilwaukee!??!?!?!?!?! Sounds like a bad plan to me, we've already had a freeze in Atlanta.

Ski school = beat daily with over 7000hrs....... Worst of all, you know the boat has sat in the water for years. This is the kiss of death for the stringers and floor!!

Well it's gotta be a cold enough freeze to actually put ice on puddles, birdbaths, etc. We just got that freeze in MN this last weekend.

In some placed. I got about 6". It's almost gone now. The ground wasn't frozen, nor the trees, so they bent WAY over under the weight. It's mostly gone now. But I think I'm done with trampoline time.

I ended up buying the boat. Ill let you guys know how it turns out!

I am excited. I spoke to the owner a number of times on the phone. 600 hours, thats pretty low compared to my nautique with 2000 on it. I put almost 200 hours a season on my boat. 30 hours a year for the past 20 years? I think I could live with that.

He has not done a complete winterization on it, but he has pulled all the drain plugs on it. So there will be minimal water in the block anyway. Fingers crossed it will be fine still. I have done repairs on a frozen block before. it wasnt too bad.

They "say" that the boat only went in the water when it was being used. It was not sitting there waiting to be used every day. They also have the full service history of the boat which was done at a local marina. I will be getting copies of all that when I pick it up friday.

I was going to post pics of my new boat, but I guess you guys have seen them all anyway. This will be my first open bow DD. I had a 77 Ski Nautique before this. So this is for sure an upgrade.

Edit: They also "say" that it was winterized and stored in a heated garage every winter. This year its sitting in some guys yard because its for sale. I have paid the deposit of $300 all ready, but he would not accept the rest of my money until I was there to pick it up in person. Seems like a stand up guy on the phone. and for the price I am willing to put more money in if needed. Possible that the stringers are bad. but its possible on any boat. I doubt my 77 Nautique had "solid" stringers either. Hopefully this summer coming up will be just a good time on the lake with the boat the way it is. Figure out what all it needs from there, then make a winter project out of it.

Wow for the price you got a GREAT steal. My 87 SunSport also had 600 hours when I bought it two years ago. My stringers (from what I can tell) are fine. This boat is a lot 'deeper' and with the vee-hull you have a smoother ride imo. Best of luck and OF COURSE we wanna see the pics!!

Ill for sure post up some pics later on. It will be spring before I can get them though. Its going right from where it is into heated storage under the cover.

Interesting bit about the price..... I had my auction sniper set for a max bid of $2950. So getting it for $2942 was cutting it very close. I was extremely happy when I won it though.

I have my sister convinced to buy one as well. There is a member on here with one for sale that similar but looks in better shape for $8000. She was trying to contact him to talk about it but so far has no reply.

My father in law picked up an 85 sunsport in the summer too. So we may all be converting to Supra's over this winter. I just hope it works as good as I think it will.

Mikey, I gotta say, your boat was one of the reasons I even considered these HUlls. My Nautique threw a great wake the way it is. I just needed more space. So the supra fills that need, and still stays within my cheap skate budget.

A full pic set of its progress will come in time. But nothing will be happeneing until at least april next year. Our lakes wont be thawed out until some time in may!

Hey man thanks for the nice words! I am very happy with my boat and yeah I'm on a budget too. It is definitely a roomy boat. Where are you located again? Are you going to turn her into a wake/surf boat?

I am in Calgary Canada. It's -35 celsius today!

The plan is to get a tower on there asap. I have 2 - 350 lbs sacs and a 550 lbs sac from my nautique that can be moved over to this boat easy enough

After that I'll be working on keeping it running and hitting the wTer as much as possible

I bought a surf board last spring but only used it a couple times this year. I was trying to improve my wakeboarding more first. This year I plan to get surfing more though with the supra

ya you made a good buy repairs or not.......get another axle under that baby soon!!!!!!

I am not sure why the big deal about the single axle trailer? I did some research and it seems the earlier models had dual axles, and the ones after 92 did. But most the ones from 89 - 92 had only a single axle trailer.

Thie bggest concern for me was the tires holding the weight. the boat is only rated at 3000 lbs dry. Add a trailer and gas and fluids and gear and your only into the 4000 lbs range. That is within the upper limits of most axles.

Ill let you know how the trip back goes. its about 1500 miles from the boat to my house! The trip starts on friday.

Yeah, a bunch of the trailers for ~20' inboards came with single axles. However most standard axles are rated at 3500 lbs, aluminum rims at 1900 lbs, and trailer tires at 1750 lbs. Add gear, tower, 2nd battery, etc & you're easily pushing the rated limits. I'm sure there are generous safety factors built in & they wouldn't have been built that way if it wasn't o.k. - but I'd def keep an eye out for cracked springs (been there), uneven tread wear, etc. & keep up the maintainence (bearings, tire pressure, etc.). Good luck with the haul.

I deff agree, this trailer is into the upper limits of being OK. It is the factory trailer however. And although I generally like to believe that we are smarter now than 20 years ago, I don't think they were totally retarded in the early 90's.

I did find it odd that the 20 footers were on dual axle trailers from 85 - 87, then in 88 or 89 they went to single axle, and then back to double axle for the 92's. Makes me wonder how many accidents there were with the single axles before Supra decided it was a bad idea?

We do a LOT of trailering over the summer. Last year I put on around 3000 km on my trailer just touring to different lakes for holidays and such. So this one will be used a lot for sure. But I will be keeping an eye on it, and doing a top to bottom "once over" in the spring before it hits the highways here.

Congrats on the new to you Supra. You will love the boat!!! I have a single axle under my TS6M and it holds the weight just fine. But under extreme conditions I wish it had brakes and a second axle for stability while driving at hwy speeds.

Heated storage and not sitting in the water all the time will greatly add to the life of the stringers. But sooner or later you will be cutting into her ..... :) Nothing better than another Supra saved from the grave.

Don't mean to be a pain, just was thinking weight is all, a 6 ply tire would do you just as well, especially if you're not hauling it that far regularly......
What's better is it's one more Supra north of the border....and will be a surf beast........

This thread is getting slightly off topic I see, hopefully none of you mind.

I thought I would update you all on the status. The boat was picked up saturday afternoon. After a few hairy experiences on the highway back it is now sitting in my father in laws garage in Saskatchewan. Some time in the spring I will be heading out there to pick it up and bring it the final leg home to Airdrie Alberta!

All in all the boat looks as good as the pics showed. For now it will be in storage until most the snow is going away, or at least the roads are clear. Ill have some pics of it possibly tomorrow from the pick up and journey home. Crossing the border was easy. And the seller made sure we had everything we need to get it with little problems.

Made it out of the ditch ok with no damage to the boat or van. Just had to unhook the boat, turn it straight then have the van pulled out by a nearby truck. The rest of the trip went smooth

When I think of boating, that's not something that ever crosses my mind. Spoiled southern guy I suppose. That could have been much worse!!!!! Glad you got it home safely.

it was a white knuckle ride back. Once the boat was into canada it was pretty smooth sailing.

It will be staying in storage in saskatchewan now until the spring. then it will make the final 800 km trip to my place some time in april or may.

Glad that slide didn't turn out any worse....My inlaws are up the road in Red deer, have enjoyed the backway to Canmore many times from Airdrie.......
Its gonna be a nail biter having that thing in Sask. 'til spring......I hate it when my boat's stored for the yr........

with any luck the weather will be clear over christmas break. if it is I may jump in the van and head out that way, then bring the boat back here sooner. I would rather have it in my yard where I can keep an eye on it.

If you end up this way in the summer let me know. I usually hit the water 2 or 3 times a week. So chances are good I am going out, or making plans to go out somewhere close. Usually end up at Ghost lake just outside cochrane. You would have driven over this on your back way to Canmore. Otherwise I am closer to your inlaws just west of innisfail at glennifer lake.

Thanks for sharing and love the pics! Glad it turned out okay. Better than a blown bearing which is somewhat common when picking up a boat that has been sitting in storage.
