So, in the few years I have been riding I have gone through 4 boats. My first boat was a 71 ish (dont remember) Glastron. It was all original. Equipped with a 65 HP 3 Cyl 2 stroke motor. This was certainly a fishing boat if you ever saw one. The motor was tired as could be. With a bit of a tune up I had it ready for the water. Our whole family went out the next sunday for a run around the lake and to try it out.

The looks of disgust from all the people as I fired the poor 2 stroke up was amazing. I had got a bit carried away when I mixed the oil in the gas. So it was really on the oily side. People in boats beside me at the dock were hiding their noses in their swim suits and towels while I warmed the boat up. One after one my wife and kids hoped in and away we went. We used that boat for one entire summer. I learned how to wakeboard behind it as well as my wife and a bunch of relatives and close friends.

I ended up cutting the fiberglass seats out of the boat and laying new floor and carpet. Then using the left over seat peices I made a frame of scrap 2X4's and had a driver seat. Used an old steering wheel from one of my skylines to replace the tired old one that was on it at the time. Here aRE some pics

In the winter that year I bought a "steal" of a boat in a 88 Capri. I finally had my open bow boat! It had a small little 128 HP 4 banger in it (same as the ford ranger, mustang and so on had in those years). I was happy as can be. Only problem was the boat was waaay too big for the motor. It struggled more than my 65 hp OB to get me out of the water. The boat was up for sale after only one outing in it

The day after I sold that boat I drove 10 hours and picked up my 1977 Nautique. This boat was amazing! I got a great deal and it worked great until the day it was sold. I built many many custom "things" for the boat.

I spent a couple hundred $$$ on the trailer. Painted it, put a new winch on it, new fenders welded on, brand new tires, and some guide rails.

It wasnt long before I really wanted some storage. So I bastardized the interior and built my own custom seats

I also have very small children. So I built a roller coaster inspired restraint system. It worked exactly as intended for the entire summer

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs280.snc4/40337_417930862637_613082637_4982274_3668431_n.jpg

As you can see. I had a TON more room once all the benches were built. No more tripping over gear. I was able to fit a 350 lbs ballast in front of that front bench. And a 550 lbs ballast in the rear bench.

cool boats man..

I started out with a cuddy 350mag Celebrity Status.. It was my uncles boat that he bought new and I always was into speed and sound when I was a kid.. Needless to say it was just a party boat.. It sucked fuel like no other and would take a year to get the nose down pulling a wakeboarder... So after 2 years of owning it i was happy to sell it! But I will say there was a lot of good times with friends and women on that boat!

Soon after I sold it I was going through with drawl not having a boat.. I saw a 91 sunsport all done up on ebay and for some reason it caught my eye.. The owner is on here as rollingrock33.. Anyway I owned a wakeboard but never got to into it becuase my boat sucked for keeping a steady speed between 20-25.. it was always 27-up to keep the nose down!

Anyway My old nieghbor down deepcreek md had this supra since new and I thought Id buy it and try out in inboard... I got it for a good price and my plan was to just FLIP it after I try it out.. Turns out the first five minutes of driving it I loved it.. it was old and needed updated... and i mean a lot of updating.. But the ol lady enjoyed it and my nephew's loved it because was all was doing some kind of activity behind the boat other then just swimming!

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1329/6245701/22345274/374120589.jpg

It wasn't even a week later and I got a tower! Ash Could Drive the boat and FINALLY I could wakeboard.. Nobody could ever drive my celebrity since it would point the nose up and take years come level out even with trim tabs and 300 hp

This boat is still far from done.. but its definitly my favorite project that I ever did!

! While I was building the supra I did buy a boat to buy and sell after the supra was done.. It was a pretty fun boat for speed and handling.. 454 MAG power play 222 .. IT was sold a day after the supras first voyage though!

Great boats. Great thread. I'm going to share some pics below and I apologize that I don't have actual pics on some of my boats. They were before digital camera and even if I could find the old prints, I'd have to scan them. So for a couple of boats I'm found a picture that represents the make and model of boat I owned. Here we go:

My first was a small boat that we call the "bathtub" boat. It was 15' long with a monstrous 50hp outboard. We fished, skied, kneeboarded, and tubed behind it. This is a pic I found that looks something like it.
http://unumemarketing.com/boat/bathtub.jpg

The there was the Glastron. A 24 foot cuddy cabin. I rebuilt the motor and a few things on the interior. We loved this boat and did all the same activities as the bathtub boat, but with a lot more room. Another couple of pics I found online.

We took a big jump and bought a new Bayliner Ciera that was 27'. We spent many weekends spending the night on the lake and take long trips up and down the TN River. We loved it, but sold it to downsize when kids started to arrive. This is my actual boat.

And since we couldn't go long without a boat, I bought an older Tiara Flybridge 26'. I rebuilt and replaced the interior, did minor engine work, lots exterior buffing, painting, outdrive work, etc. We loved the boat but again sold it because it was too big to manage with babies on boat. My actual boat.

I then had a Starcraft 18' closed bow sterndrive aluminum boat. This was a general play boat and fishing boat. The pic below is kinda close since I couldn't find an exact match.
http://unumemarketing.com/boat/starcraft.jpg

And so today I'm a proud new owner of a Saltare. I'm rebuilding it through the winter and you can see all the rebuild pics by clicking the link in my signature. Better pics of the boat will come once I get it out of my basement this spring.

I grew up on the lakes of East Tennesee, and thankfully I have been back on them these past three years after a 7 year exile to Augusta, GA.

I was in the fortunate position to have use of my parent's boats growing up, but the list of ones I can call my own is growing.

Parent's Boats:
1976 36' Heritage Trawler
1988 17' Boston Whaler - Montauk
1985 18' Boston Whaler - Outrage
19-- 13' Boston Whaler - Super Sport (several)
Sea Doo, etc., etc.

My Boats:
1-1970s 12' John Boat (Named The Half/Half)
The boat was mine and the motor was my friends. We were about 10.
2-1985 19' Ski Supreme closed bow, 351 V8
I bought the boat while in college, replaced stringers, electrical, teak and added stereo and bimini top. I had this boat for 9 years.
3-2003 22' Supra Launch SSV.
1 1/2 seasons on the water, still pretty stock but I am working on ballast upgrades for surfing and trying to convince the wife we need more/better tower speakers.4538

New here and new to the Supra family with our new Launch 242. Here are some pics of it along with our first boat which is a Saetta Classic built from a kit in 2009-2010. Both are powered by Indmar engines. 70 hrs on Saetta, 9 hrs on the 242. The 242 is incredible! The all wood Saetta is a blast too!

Patrick - I mainly use Chickamauga and Parksville Lake near the Ocoee River. Chickamauga gets a little crowded so I like visiting more remote lakes like Parksville, Hiwassee, Fontana, Jocassee, etc.

First: '89 Marlin Cobra. Good memories on that boat and it's what got me seriously into water sports since I had my own boat to get out on whenever I could scrounge up a crew.

Do you find it easier to scrounge up a crew new that you have the supra? I seemed to have no problem finding a crew on my old first boat. Now its like pulling teeth. That seems backwards to me though.

cadunkle
02-04-2011, 06:21 PM
Sadly for me it's like pulling teeth to get a crew together. One of the guys from work is always down to come out and drive (the older guy in the picture). He's all about being on the water but travels a lot for work so isn't always around. The young guy in the pic comes out a fair amount. One other friend from work comes out and rides a decent amount, but aside from that it's difficult to find people. No one I know has their own gear so they ride my boards, wear my vests, and burn my gas. I don't really mind because my usual crew is late teens/early 20s so not much to throw around... I don't mind and am happy to offer some fun on the water regardless, but I think that's the problem, they'd rather stay up late and party so don't want to get up early for the good water. If I'm lucky i get out every other weekend through the summer. If it were up to me I'd be out most Sat/Sun and a couple days during the week after work. I work on the way to the river so could bring the boat and go straight from work.

Jut got the Saltare late last season so hopefully this season now that I have an inboard I can meet some people who ride more often and can get a steady crew together. At the very least with the Saltare it's easy to hold a good speed so anyone can drive it! Something about torque... lol

It just has snaps in the front. I don't have the cover as the boat was prolly sitting out in the weather for 95%of it's life and have had to redo everything custom. Really thinking one would b tight just getting someone to make one for me might cost me.

particle board in a boat??? Why to save $5???

The seats costed me $25 to build. That was for all of them. Only took 2 sheets of 4X8 particle board, and a couple lumber shorts.

This was a temp solution to see if I could make the boat last me a bit longer. In the end it did get me through the rest of the summer. But she was for sale when I winterized it. I got the supra a couple weeks later. I have no plans of putting particle board in this one.

ALso, I still have the original interior for the nautique. It can all go back in pretty easy.

And the final note, when I lifted out the old factory seats and found 1/2" thick particle board for the base of it that was 30+ years old, I figured it couldnt be "that" bad to use it for my storage seats.

Wow a lot has changed on the forums since the last time I was on here. This is a great thread.

I started out with an '87 Charger, at the stern was a 200hp high output Johnson. Super flat wakes (we're skiers), top speed was 68mph (GPS). Sold that to a couple of guys that were speed freaks, last I heard they got the boat up to 79mph before it would start to chine walk.

The second boat and still current is an '89 Supra Comp, reason for us picking this boat is for the reputation it has for a great pull and flat wakes. Came with all the history from new, along with a tandem trailer and low hours. Have done a bunch of stuff to it, 4 blade prop, rebuilt carb, new floor, bimini top, some new logo's which I'll be changing again.

Hope you like the pics...
